Connection problems to dLink DSL-504G (apple-apple)

Hi guys,

sounds like an easy one but the other apple, the one with the DSL-504G, is in New Zealand and the owners (family) are having some difficulty setting it up. They have opened the correct ports in their PBook firewall but opening the correct ports on the DSL is harder. DSL (modem and router in one) doesn't appear to have a UPnP option (I've downloaded the manual and can't find any mention)

I'm able to connect my iBook to other macs and PC via iChat and AIM (lots of help from and thanks to Ralph!)

So does anyone in the wonderful mac community have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any responses - do ask for more info as I've probably missed out some crucial stuff, i'll ask family in NZ to join the thread too.
