No Audio In FCPX Timeline, But It's In The Clip Window

I grabbed some video with my iPhone and imported it into FCPX. I'm ready to start editing, so I drag the clip into the timeline -- but there's no audio. Previewing the clip in the Clip window/area pays the audio just fine -- but I get nothing in the Timeline. I see the waveform, I see the meter moving like it should -- but no audio.

What am I doing wrong?

Look at the Edit->Source Media menu. Chances are that it is set to "Video only".

If that is the case, when you drag a clip to the timeline only its video will be used - seems to be the problem you are both experiencing...

What's overcomplicated to me is that I have to relink media after highlighting EACH clip in my timeline that has missing audio to get that audio in the timeline. That's with FCPX. With Premiere, I only have to relink ONCE and everything is there.

Yes everyone will have different opinions. What seems to be the trend is consumers and amateurs gravitate towards the FCP series (except for FCP7, that was a great editing program for professionals) and professionals use Premiere, Avid, and sometimes Vegas. There are reasons for that.

EExcept for the thousands of professionals who make their living using FCPX. Sure all the movies and prime time tv is cut on Avid, which accounts for a tiny fraction of video professionals. You don't like FCPX don't use it, but that has little to do with its capabilities.

YOu could automatlocally relink missing audio in the fcp7 timeline? i think only in your dreams.

Hi Tom, I have the same no-sound issue, for the very first time. It's happening with clips that I had to shoot in standard definition as my camera broke in the middle of a trip in Asia and it would no longer shoot in HD. I had no choice but to continue to shoot in STD format.

Whether the STD clips are included in the main production that has HD clips or the clips are edited in a separate STD project, there is no sound. Yet there is sound on the memory card.

I am using the latest FCP 10.3.1.

Thanks for your help!
