disable start up sound

On Leopard I could simply put down the volume before a shut down, and I had no anoying start up sound. However this seems not to work anymore on Lion.Which possibilities do I have to start my system without the roaring bong?

The simplest solution:

Go to Applications>Utilities>Terminal and type (or copy/paste) the next line to change the startup sound volume:

sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume=%10

(“%10” is the volume…you can use %00-%100)

To restore it to the original value type:

sudo nvram -d SystemAudioVolume

If that doesn't work try resetting the NVRAM / PRAM first.

That's how I did.

Reset the NVRAM / PRAM.
