Saving illustrator CS5 files in Mac OSX Lion makes the app to crash

Hello!

I have serious troubles with illustrator since i've installed Lion. All my files are stored in a networked Western Digital USB disk connected to the Airport Extreme via USB port. When a file is open in illustrator and try to save ir after a few changes the APP CRASH! No matter if the file was in the desktop or in the networked drive, always crash! The file is saved OK and with no errors but the app crash and need to be "Force Quited" and open again...

Anybody has this issue with illustrator and Lion? Anybody has a fix for this?

THANKS!!!

Has anyone thought that it may be caused from the auto save feature integrated into the OS that can cause this crashing? I mean it is meant to work in the background of any word doc program and etc so could it cause the algorithms and coding from Adobe to crash the programs because of conflicting ones from the OS Lion running in the background? Does any one know how to test this out? Or is there any way to shut off the auto save feature in the OS Lion? Just a thought,

I am running the latest OS Lion with the update working off a local server and a server via Jungle and my illustrator crashes every time I go to save, and then when I force quit it freezes my imac. I installed java, and checked for updates from both adobe and apple and installed any and all of them and still same problems, so my guess it may be the auto save....any thoughts??

I still feel it has to be something based on the networking and auto save features built into the OS Lion conflicting with the program...

This is a strange one no doubt, but once you establish a save to the network drive, it won't crash again (well, at least it has not till now). I just opened a PS file from the network, saved it out as an ai file (which worked) and now I can open any other ai file on the network and save there no problem. try that!

I don't think that will really solve anything. How would a Photoshop file converted or saved as an ai file change anything? Its still the same program creating and writing the files, regardless if its an original Photoshop file or not that will cause the crash. I have noticed that when I save to my network where the files are org. located it causes the issues of crashing but when I save to my desktop i can save all day no matter what.

So...im just wondering how apple integrated the auto/version saver and if they tested it for files across networks. And if it creates any issues in the background for graphic heavy programs. I mean for me it seems to be the only real logical thing to cause these issues...apple has released updates or new OS versions before and (as far as I can remeber) the Adobe programs have never had these kind of issues after updates, this is the first time they did an auto save feature to the os. Adobe CS3 or 2 and older versions dont even work for OS Lion... so I dont know, I just wish someone would fig this out for us... :/

I'm not saying this is a solution, just that you should try it. I finally got a crash saving to the network - and I do this kind of work every day, day in and day out, and have been doing for over a month now with just one crash. So what I conclude from my test is that this problem maybe related to vector content or file structure, but I don't see how it's related to any versioning, as Adobe does not use that lion feature.

But expecting Apple to fix is probally an exercise in futility. Adobe might, if it can be determined that something about v15.0.1 has something to do with the problem. Since it's only happening in Illustrator, it does seem that the problem is embedded there.

There are a lot of workarounds for folks where this happens more then it happens here: 1 crash in about 1000 saves. That is to save locally and use something like Super Flexible File Synchronizer to monitor a folder and sync with the network drive where you store your ai files. SFFS works perfectly in Lion, and is really a good idea for anyone editing large files over the LAN anyway. Cheers,

I'm getting the same problem with illustrator CS5 running on Lion - both have been updated to the latest versions.

My illustrator files save (command s) fine with on the local hard drive but when saving (command s) to the Time Capsule via ethernet it crashes every time! Seriously frustrating. Though, when I Save As to Time Capsule it seems to work...

Could be a permission problem perhaps...?

I've resolved to work with illustrator files on the local hard drive or do Save As until a fix arrives... please... soon!

Same problem.

In the studio we work directly off a shared time capsule. With Snow Leopard no problems. Since I have installed Lion I receive the problem in Illustrator consistently (whenever I save over the original document for the first time).

In Photoshop I also get spinning beach balls when saving over existing files on the network (although I have to admit not as frequently). The worst with the photoshop errors is that after I restart the machine (which is the only available option), the file just dissapears! Less than ideal, frustrating to say the least.

The same error has been repeatable for me on 1 old MBP and 2 new iMacs all with clean installs.

Any updates on this?

Current system

OSX 10.7.2

Creative Suite 5.1 (installer says 5.5)

I have the exact same problem in Illustrator CS5 using Lion on my 2011 i7 iMac with 16gb memory whenever I'm saving over ethernet (or wifi) on my time capsule disk. No problems when saving to a local disk.

Funny thing is that my wife, Using CS5 for Windows 7 on her HP laptop, can work from the Time Capsule disk over the network in Illustrator CS5 no problem!!! So much for Mac being more stable and reliable then Windows.

I've updated the Time Capsule to 7.6 firmware yesterday (november 10th 2011) with no changes. Apple has been made aware of this problem in September!! It worked fine in Snow Leopard, so Apple seems to be to blame, not Adobe! All Software updates have been done, everything is up to date!

I switched to Apple with this enormously expensive i7 2011 iMac just so I wouldn't have these kinds of problems!!! I even bought the Time Capsule, which is a quite expensive router. My iPad and iPhones gave me a much better user experience. Come on Apple!

I've also had problems with bluetooth keyboards randomly refusing to pair, my Apogee Duet randomly refusing to pair! Excel refusing to open files from the Time Capsule. When I copied them using Finder to a local disk, I could open that same file no problem! I mean come on! All this expensive hardware and more problems than I had using Windows 7 last year!

I am disappointed and hope to hear about a solution soon from Apple!

This problem still persists. "Save As" to a networked drive does work fine, as does a local save with any save command ("Save As" or CMD+S). Either work locally, or save multiple copies on the networked drive until there's a fix. Hopefully Adobe and Apple will get a fix soon since many creative professionals use networked drives for day-to-day work.
