Canon Lide 35 scanner on Lion?
Does anyone have a Canon LIDE 35 working on Lion? It works fine on Snow Leopard, but even Vuescan doesn't seem to recognise it on Lion. Canon has no official drivers for this scanner for 10.7.

OMG !!!! We have lift off! My scanner is now recognized by VueScan!!
Thank you for all your help and suggestions!!! Yee-ha! So happy!🙂
I finally tried it again on my machine but with no luck. I uninstalled all the existing LiDE 35 files, rebooted, and installed the files listed before. Again, the scanner shows up in the USB system informations, but VueScan does not recognize the scanner :-(
And what about "Canoscan toolbox" or the scanning program provided with Lion ? Do they manage to make it works ?
I've never used VueScan. Could the problem come from there ?
I'm not at home but it would be interesting to see all file/permission provided by the driver/toolbox installer. If the problem is linked with the case sensitivity of the filesystem, maybe we could compare our files and see if something differ.
Another test often proposed by the Apple Support Team would be to create a new partition with the right case sensitivity, to install Lion on it and to see if it works. It uses a lot of time and Apple has never paid me for that 😐.
Canonscan toolbox tells me "almost" the same as VueScan: Failed to open driver. I don't think VueScan is the problem, as I always had troubles with Canon drivers but never with VueScan :-)
It would be nice, if we can compare file/permission from our installation. The problem I see is, that we probably have the exact same structure, but the file that tries to load the driver, sees it differently. For example, if the path it tries to load ist /library/Image Caputer/..., this will work on your machine, but on mine. But still we both have a /Library folder.
I will install 10.7 on a machine which doesn't have case sensitive file system in the next days / weeks. So I will see if it still works or not. I haven't updated this machine yet to still be able to use the scanner ...
You are certainly right.
You could try tu use dtruss on canoscan or vuescan. It could lead you to the failing system call.
If filenames are just encoded wrongly in the driver strings there is hope to be able to repair that, changing directly the strings in the executable files.
I've updated my profile so you should be able to find my email address if needed.
Canon Scan Lide 50 and Lion: finally it works, thanks to Edouard Gaulué's memory and guidance!
1. Downloaded and installed http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lid e_35#DriversAndSoftware
2. Restarted computer and connected USB from Scanner
3. I used Paperless 2.1.2 for Mac OS X (www.marinersoftware.com/products/paperless) and it recognizes immediatly Canon Lide 50 (Preferences chosen as Use Image Capture)
4. Scan away Sam!
Cheers, good luck, C
Ah, I have gotten it working using this software:
TWAIN SANE Interface for MacOS X
http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/
It looks like the author of the software did a new version for Lion. Thanks author! Your work saved me from having to upgrade a piece of hardware due to a software issue. I'll mail Canon and mention it.
Note, it doesn't work using a Photoshop import, but I did get it to work fine through ImageCapture. The first scan didn't come out well, but when I did an Overview scan first, as a preview, it worked fine.
Thanks for that - Twaine Sane is the solution for me as well.
I have a lide 50. Installed the lide 35 software and drivers and this at least opens without an error message, but claims to not be able to access the driver (although installed).
Vuescan worked for me from the getgo but almost the cost of a new scanner!
So I've waited and kept one of my computers on snow leopard so I could still use my scanner.
But the Twain Sane works great. You just need to download libusb (which you install first), Sane backends (install 2nd) and finally the Twain Sane interface.
Once you have downloaded and rebooted, you can add it to your printer and scanner list in system preferences.
Once this is done, you can not only use it in image capture, but directly into preview or other scanning software. I have tested it on ScanDrop Lite which seems to work fine, but I'm pretty sure it would work on other software in the app shop as well. If anyone finds the killer app for this perhaps you can let us know. But I'm pretty happy with Preview I think at the moment (and at not having to buy a new scanner).
Thanks for putting us onto this Misha.
