lion mail exchange message moving issues

there are dozens of issues with Lion, it feels so unstable, freezes constantly, essentially crashes when time machine boots up, on and on and on.... this is the first time i've ever been genuinely dissapointed in a mac OS full update, just awful

but the biggest issue for me right now is that i use mail.app for my work email form an exchange server, and i'm running into several instances where deleting or moving messages from my inbox simply doesn't take hold, and after a few minutes the messages miraculously reappear in my inbox, not where i put them

this does not happen to every single message, and it does not happen all of the time, it seems to go in spurts, and typcially requires a restart (as so many other issues have with Lion)

i'm not really looking for a fix, because i'm guessing there is no user-level fix for it, i'm just hoping that this gets passed along to the powers that be so it's resolved in the first update to Lion

anyone else having similar issues, whether with exchange accounts or otherwise?

Did you see the comments about stopping the "Changing Flags" hang in the Activity Window (by hitting the red Stop sign)?

(That is go Window->Activity and look for the hung task and stop it.)

It means you can unfreeze Mail without quitting.

I know it is pants, but it may be that is enough to keep you going until they fix it.

I am now managing to cope by doing that.

Apple do know about all this - I have had confirmation from their bug people.

Hi,

I had the same problem. It appeared out of sudden after mail 5.0 was running perfectly under Lion for a week.

Than 3 days ago no incoming emails were received anymore. Everything run perfectly with my iPhone, but not with mail on my MacBook Pro.

When I tried to close down mail, the window disappeared, but mail did not shut down. I had to force it to close over the last few days.

I am using MailTags and MailActOn and yesterday I rebuild both: The library from message files as well as the spotlight index. First nothing changed. No incoming mails.

I tried to close mail and this time something strange happened: First the window dissapeared and mail stayed open (saw it in the dock). Then 2!!! mail windows opened.

After this mail shut down by itsef and when I restarted it the Exchange account was working perfectly again.

Whatever happened - I am not a specialist, but liked to share with you the behaviour here ;-)

Many greetings,

Tanja

Same behavior here -- general very stable OS X Lion experience. Two major glitches:

* mail with exchange exhibits all of the behaviors noted above -- it is so bad I am exploring Outlook for the Mac which I cannot believe I am saying after disliking entourage so much.

* command-tab does not show all the active applications any more -- until I restart, then it does for a while and then slowly over time things drop off the grid.

I will try to post the second one in a more relevant thread, but thought I would mention both here in case somehow they help us share Lion experiences and get Apple's attention.

The main issue I have is that often my emails are stuck in the outbox. I have to IMAP accounts (mobile me included) and it is really annoying. When I send an email from my mobile me account, I always have the server window pop up saying it can't connect to the server. It shows me MobileMe (offline), then my other servers, then at the bottom of the liste mobileme again. I try to edit the list to remove the MobileMe one but it only shows one mobileme server, I am not sure if the issue there is because of the fact that Apple has @mac and @ me in the same server set up.

Mail is working fine for me now, after three weeks of using gmail.

If I can make a suggestion: from a productivity point of view, and assuming you have a mobile me account, I recommend setting up a new gmail or hotmail account; logging in to the web mail version of MM via Safari and, once logged in, selecting prererences; and forward everything to the gmail account. As well, I used the "Vacation" message capacity to let all my clients know that Mail was not working properly.

All this meant that I got all mail immediately, and my clients got an email that let them know there was a problem with mail, and that solved everything for me.

Then, still with this set up, I checked daily (sent a test message to myself, and waited to see if it hung in the "sent" window); if it did, I used gmail that day.

Now, it all works, but I have a fallback plan if it messes up again.

Re. rolling back to SN: I am overseas right now, so that's not an option, but Final Cut Pro 7 is working fine with Lion and so is Aperture and Capture One Pro, my main productivity tools, so probably not. It they were not working, I definitely would.

Exchange user here.

The problem seems to do with rules on the mail client side:

  1. delete all your rules
  2. turn off junk mail, as I think it creates the problem, too (by making rules you can't see)

If you need rules, you can get some of them by setting them on the exchange side with Outlook Web Access or an Outlook Windows client.

Basically this is killing me. I'm busy this morning, but a colleague is working via Gmail (he POPs his exchange box over there). Likley I'll spend some time next week getting off mail.app. I may even look at Entourage. Oh, they call Entourage Outlook now don't they.

If I could go back to Snow Leopard, I would, just because of this stinking problem with the 'changing flags' vs. Mail rules bug.

I called Apple about this a couple of weeks ago and was told that he doesnt see anything in the logs on this issue. I told him that there was plenty in the forums but he stated that the forums dont create engineering/support tickets. We need to call in and discuss this or it will not get on the radar for them to fix.

I did try Mozilla Thunder and it worked lightning fast!! it was crazy but it didnt bring over my folders, bummer since they have an addin to synch calendars. This would have fixed me right up.
