Hi Tim. On the Security and Privacy preferences, under the General tab in the lower right corner there is an Advanced button. That's actually where the Log out after N minutes... option is located. The article should have been more specific. I hadn't tried it myself until now.
Hope this helps.

Hi gifimimiriri,
It worked.
No cursor wiping desktop any more.
The genius was wrong and overall I spent a full day trying to fix something which you pointed out can be fixed with a couple of clicks.
10 points.
Many thanks.
Tim
Re : this problem - I have had this ever since upgrading to Lion. I have had various conversations with support about it. It went away for a while and then it came back a few weeks ago.
I reset my settings on Saturday after talking to Support who pointed me to the article referred to above and so far it hasn't resolved the problem. It would be nice to have a fix for this one day.
Hi All
I have had the same problem for some time using 10.7.4. I found Itunes seemed to be the problem if i was running it when i put my mac book pro to sleep. If i quit Itunes the desktop pic would reappear, i also used to have Itunes launch automaticly using login items, which i have now removed. I hope there is a better solution as i want itunes to launch because i use itunes to stream to my hifi.
I found that this is a problem with the Dock. You can tell the dock to quit and it will relaunch and fix the blank desktop image. I made an Automator service to quit the dock:

Thank you. It worked as described. I never used Automator before. I would like to know how this started and if it will continue.

I have an additional issue related to this. I'm running 2 monitors, and upon wake from sleep mode, application and finder windows jump all over the place. I also get the grey desktop. If anyone has a fix for the window jumping, I'd greatly appreicate it!! Thanks!
OS X 10.7.5

The Automator service: This fixed a long-time problem. Thanks!
