How do I remove "Esc" shortcut to exit Full Screen application mode?

I read the below post and I was able to add a Universal shortcut to toggle Full Screen mode for all supported applications on Lion ..

⚠ Can I somehow remove "Esc" as the shortcut to exit Full screen mode? (I vaguely remember seeing this option when I was first trying out Lion, I may be wrong).

I would like to put Esc key to more use than just being able to exit full screen mode (which anyways I would not after the restore and mult-desktop feature). e.g. stopping loading pages in full screen Safari and closing popups etc.

Please help me preserve the functionality of this useful key on my Mac.

Sorry, I don't know how to disable that, but I want to thank you for pointing it out the shortcut.

Esc has never been used for functions like that, that I can remember. Cmd-. will stop most processes, including loading a page. Cmd-w will close a window, including popups.

How did you make it close windows and stop pages loading?

The Esc key is still the default for Cancel in dialogs.

Has this issue been resolved yet? It's still driving me mad, even beyond Safari, where I accidentally exit the most often. All they need is a tickbox in the keyboard preferences.

This problem still exists in Yosemite public beta, so I'm pretty sure it will land in the final version of Yosemite too unless, of course, Apple starts reacting to their bug reports. Everybody who doesn't want this behavior should file a bug report to Apple.

+1 on this. I frequently use ESC to deselect items or to exit out of editing mode.

Example: iBooks Author. Let's say I edit text in a text box, and want to close out of text-editing and have the text box as a whole selected. The natural thing to do is to hit ESC - however this won't trigger the expected reaction, but rather exit out of full screen.

As previous posters mentioned, the animation to exit and re-enter full screen take a few seconds and is really disrupting my workflow.

I can confirm that the behaviour has not changed in 10.10 public beta.

As per definition, this is not a bug! It is merely a bad choice Apple made that goes against user intuition.

This is not just a Safari thing, Mail and Calendar do the same thing ... rather annoying. Escape is cancel, not change my window orientation!!

Usually, your local school/library.

Contact your city voting commission to check.

This problem is also driving me nuts. I haven't found a good fix for this yet. Submitted feedback to Apple. Anyone else have any good ideas on how to fix this?

Working in full screen is really annoying because of using esc key very often in some applications. There should be a way to change the shortcut somehow.
