Pay $29 for upgrade now have to pay for compatible scanner/camera etc

So, I just upgraded to the new Lion OS. Thought it would be a good thing. Now my scanner won't work. Come to find out that I cannot update the drivers to the new Lion OS supported drivers cause they don't exist. My Photoshop won't work either. So, basically I paid a low price for a great upgrade, but now I am going to have to pay even more to get new compatible accessories. Anyone else in this same boat?

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Rabrack. For anyone who is still having problems and longs to work straight from Photoshop again, all I did was download 8400fosx10241en.dmg.

In case that link isn't clickable, paste the following into your browser download window:

Installing took about a minute, followed by a restart. Then I went to Photoshop (CS4) and hey presto there the Canoscan was. I wasn't able to use the twain driver under Snow Leopard (and I did try to find a solution) so I'm most impressed. I wouldn't have got my scanner going again without your help.

I keep thinking of the 8400F as relatively new, but I looked up my cheque book entry for it and it's nearly six years old! My Brother HL-1430 is even older.

Hello again Rabrack! Sorry for delayed reply... finally problem solved! Still could not get the driver at the Canon site even at the Apple store. Trainer showed me this site (http://www.anydrivers.com/Scanner/Canon/CanoScan-8400F/127584.html) with dirvers and I was able to proceed. Only one slide scans vs the 4 in the past ... that is way better then none! Again many thanx! p717

I installed the 10.6 drivers and software for my 9950f on my 10.7 Mini. CanoScan seems to work, but it's not useful for our 8x10 transparency scans for which VueScan has worked under 10.6. Under 10.7, VueScan appears to me to work only if Open in 32-bit Mode is checked in the Get Info window for VueScan (9.0.91). Other people have mentioned using VueScan, and I'm wondering if anyone else found that 32-bit mode was necessary. Although I don't understand these issues, I suspect that the driver is 32-bit.

It worked like a charm. Just received my new imac yesterday and was pretty aggravated when I found that my Canoscan 8400f would not work. It is a great scanner and I use it to digitize my old 35mm slides and film. The canon site has changed a bit since your instructions and you keep getting the message that there is nothing available. However, since you gave the file numbers for everything, it was a cinch to do a google search for those items not now shown on the Canon site. I found everything and followed your installation instructions precisely. It works just like it did on my imac G5. Thank goodness there are good guys like you out there who take the time to put this stuff out there for us.

I believe that Canon may have Not yet upgraded their "Toolbox" Utility to be Lion compatible. Toolbox is not the same as the scanner drivers.

As for a solution,

People who need to SCAN and/or PRINT without a compatible Lion driver from their manufacturer can use Apple's very basic "PRINT & SCAN" utility in System Preferences:

  1. Click the Apple menu (User uploaded file ), and then click System Preferences .
  2. Click Print & Scan (User uploaded file ).
  3. Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
  4. Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to modify scan settings such as output type.Figure 2: Example of the Show Details scanning screenUser uploaded file
  5. Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .

The next window looks like this:

User uploaded file

Hope this helps 🙂

Chalk up another big thank you to rabrack, as well as the others who provided links to the needed software. I followed the procedure and... actually at first it didn't work! It said something like "driver couldn't be initialized". However I found that it was because I still had Image Capture open - I guess that had control of the driver and so CanoScan Toolbox couldn't get control of it. Once I quit out of Image Capture it worked prefectly! Thank you!

Pay $29 for upgrade now have to pay for compatible scanner/camera etc
