Where is the Lion version of Property List Editor?

I've downloaded XCode 4.1 and the Server Admin app in a vain attempt to find the property list editor. Does anyone know where it is?

2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.7)

I just came in to say that I followed the instructions and it worked like a charm. I had installed XCode 3.2.6 some time ago, in order to gain back the Property List Editor tool (since it is such a pain waiting for XCode to open and then navigate through it just to look at a PList). I believe I did this back when I found out they took it out from XCode 4.

However, this meant that I had multiple copies of XCode, of which one was specifically for a single tool. I followed the instructions as noted, except that instead of extracting the files from the downloaded package, I just used the ones from the older installation in the "/Developer-3.2.6" folder.

  • Copy the "Property List Editor.app" bundle into the "/Developer/Applications/Utilities" folder
  • Copy the "PlistEdit.framework" folder into the "/Developer/Library/PrivateFrameworks" folder
  • Throw the "/Developer-3.2.6" folder to the trash
  • Empty trash (otherwise, it will continue complaining that the app is in the trash instead of picking up the copied one).
  • And Bob's your uncle. 🙂

I re-associated the plist file types with the "Property List Editor.app" in its new location, and everything works as I wanted.

Note that I am not a developer (well, not any more), and I've only kept up with XCode for some of the tools that allow me to manage my system, including the "Property List Editor.app".

A big "thank you" to all of you for the assistance!

Cheers!
