Bootcamp Macbook Air 2011 "No Bootable device"

Hello,

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my brand new Macbook Air. It's the Macbook air Mid 2011 with Mac Os Lion. I used bootcamp to create a bootable USB Drive with the windows installation and the windows support drivers. After that bootcamp starts partitioning and then reboots. Up to the reboot everything seems to work as it should. During the reboot I get a black screen with the message: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". I am able to boot of the bootable USB drive on my windows PC so it seems the USB drive is OK. To make sure I tried two different windows DVD's. Any idea's on fixing the problem? There's not much information on internet yet about the new bootcamp in OS Lion. Been trying the whole day so I hope someone can help me out.

Greetings Johan

I got this to work after 12 frustrating hours of trying to install Windows 7 on a Macbook Air running Lion using bootcamp. After I tried using 3 different USB flash drives without success, I connected a La Cie external hard drive via the USB drive and the install went completely completely smooth. I stored the Windows iso file locally on my mac. If USB drives are so problematic - which they are for this, just google it - why doesn't Apple provide a recommded flash drive for this job? It would save the community a gazillion hours of frustration.

I'm glad I thought of this before they brought in the straightjacket - and believe me, I wasn't far from needing one.

BRILLIANT!!!!

I was in the same situation and had tried 2 USB drive with aboslotely zero success. In both cases, I got the dreaded error 0x80300024. Then I picked my portable Hard Drive, connected with USB, waited nervously and.... everything went smoothly.

Apple, if you are listening, modify your intructions from "USB flash drive" to "USB HDD". You would save a lot of people a lot of frustration.

To anyone who may be reading this in Australia, I had the same issue with a MB Air Mid-2012.

I got it to work with a SanDisk Cruzer 16GB USB i bought from Officeworks for about 14AUD.

The "no boot device" error came up, but I managed to get around it by holding down the Alt/Option key which allowed me to select the flash drive to boot from.

I then got an error on the first attempt as Windows wouldn't install after I formatted the drive during setup . I then restarted the boot camp process (erased the partition and started again) and on the second time through it worked.

So, a frustrating experience, but it does work. Eventually.

I too encounterd the "No bootable device ..." problem but stumbled upon a solution that might work for others. When you get this screen, hold hown the power button for 8-10 seconds until the computer turns off. Then hold down the "option" key and press the power key. After a few seconds I got a screen allowing me to select the USB thumbdrive, and it then booted and went into windows installation. Everything proceeded normally after that.

My USB stick is a Kingston 8 GB, part number DT101G2.

Thanks! that worked! Was going to buy several usbs to try 🙂
