Cannot Adjust Text! Please Help

Just wondering. Why is it that I cannot adjust text and titles that I add into my video? Be it to resize or to change its position. When I double click my text on the viewer, I am able to see the circle but no matter how many times I click or drag it, my text will not move. I noticed that the cursor does not change into a hand as well. The same goes when resizing, there is the boxes at the corner, but I cannot click and drag it. Please help. I suspect that this problem appeared only in OS X 10.7 Lion.

I'm having the exact same problem. I checked "help" in Final Cut X and it says...

1. Select a title in the Timeline

2. In the viewer, double-click the title text

3. Click the position button and drag the title's text box to the new position

However when I do this, the "hand" on the mouse never shows up, just the text editor. This is very frustrating since I've got a project due next week. Looks like I'll have to fire up Final Cut 7 to get this done.

Ugh...

I have the same problem-- my curser cannot grab the positioning circle. I used to be able to do it, before installing Lion. What a mistake that was.

Hafken-- can you explain the work-around. I'm trying to use the transform tool...

But can only figure out how to rotate and scale the words. How do I get the titles into a different place on the screen?

Would really appreciate the help. I've wasted a couple of hours on this already ARRGGGG.

There's no special place to click, so it may not be intuitive. When in the transform tool, click and hold down the mouse anywhere except on a control, inside the "box" delineated by the blue corners. You can even click on the text itself (as long as a control is not on the text). Then drag. You should see the text move along with the entire "box" itself.

If this still isn't clear enough, I'll try to post some screen shots of the process.

The Apple phone support guys have come to the conclusion there are incompatiblity issues with Lion and Final Cut Pro X. The inability to reposition the text is one of them. They assured me they were taking up the matter with a Higher Authority. Not sure if that means God. or Jobs. or Who. But in the meantime, the most you can do is move things around a little bit with the transformer tool on the bottom left of the viewer--but it changes the parameters of the entire video, not just the text. So it's almost useless. Final Cut Pro X users-- if you haven't downloaded Lion yet-- DON'T!

I had to transfer all my Final Cut Pro projects and events to my other iMac --the one that is still operating on Snow Leopard-- to complete my project.

If you select only the connected clip representing the text, and then use the transform tool, you only affect the text, not the entire video. they are different clips, and each clip has its own parameters. it definitely works just fine for moving the text without changing the underlying video.

I just upgraded to Lion and started having this problem like everyone else. Here's another workaround...

You can position the box in the Inspector HUD (keyboard shortcut Cmd + 4) as long as the Position is a published parameter. Just slide the x and y values until you get it to the position you want. It is awkward and slower than simply dragging the text box, but at least it works.

I am glad I found this post, was going potty wondering what I was doing wrong.

Using the transform as a work-around is obviously a pain but it is not quite as useless as someone suggested.

If you put each line of text on a different title clip and stack them one above the other it is possible to use transform on each clip to drag each line about the screen to where you want it. I had to get some titles done in a hurry and this what I just did.

Hopefully Apple will fix it soon. In the meantime the more of us report it the quicker it will get fixed (hopefully)
