MacBook Pro did not shut down (hang)...

Good Afternoon,

About 2 days ago I upgraded to Mac OS X Lion (clean install), and I haven't had any major problems so far in term of system freezes or missing user files. However, today when I shuted down my MacBook Pro it went to a white shutdown screen and showed the gray spinwheel. I waited while Mac it shuted down, the problem was that it didn't do so. After 1minute and 30 seconds I decided to hit the power button to force shutdown my Mac. I did experienced this one time in SL. I don't know why this happened and the only thwo things that I did before shutdown was to browse the web in Safari watch Youtube videos and some Facebook and when I proceeded with shutdown all my programs were close and also uncheck the "resume" check box option in the shutdown dialog.

After booting back from that strange shutdown I checked the system logs and theres no reference of a improper shutdown whatsoever. I checked my Library file logs and there was no improper shutdown log either.

Has anyone also experienced this issue in OSX Lion?, also is my Mac OK?

Thanks!

Hi Skagana, I have tried lots of tweaks and deleting 3rd party software, and I also think it has something to do with Parallels Desktop 6.

I know there is lots of people with this problem and I am trying to find out if it is a common problem... do we all have Parallels Desktop installed?

I willl have to investigate further. Thanks for your help... IAN...

Hi everyone, I had the same problem but didnt have parallels installed. My problem started when I trialled Kaspersky Anti Virus. I have just got around to uninstalling the app completely and all is good now for the first time in about 20 days. To uninstall completely you need to use Kaspersky uninstall. If you dont have it just download the trial again (using a different email address) and you will be given the choice to install or uninstall when you click on the download.

I shut down my macpro and I have been waiting for 30 minutes and it is not shutting down. The only thing I can see in the screen is my deskstop wallpaper and the moving reading disk...I pressed the power button already but it didn't help...I'm am still not using Lion..please help me..the only thing I can remember before shutting down was I watched on YouTube, Facebook and google....I don't use safari as I downloaded google chrome but I think my safari was opened for a long time and never used it...But I made sure all my apps were closed before shutting down...

MacbookPro mid 2009. Sweet under Snow Leopard.

From day one of installing Lion I have this issue. Clean install, and all incremental Lion updates thereafter: issue still there.

Just clean installed Mountain Lion today. Issue still there.

Sure the operating system is perhaps great, but for this issue to still exist, be it with Apple or some other application that wont close out in background, after all this time, is a joke.

My Mac nowadays feels very familiar to my old Windows Vista bag of ****

Computers? They will always be buggy, tempramental things no matter who makes them.

HELP. My MacBook Pro 15" with Retina on OS X Mountain Lion which I just got 2 weeks ago just hanged on me while I was trying to shut down.

I've been using it very minimally - mostly to do recordings on Garageband and to upload my music via Safari.

Today, after having Safari opened for a long time, I decided to Shut Down, but it hanged and all I saw was my desktop and nothing else worked.

I pressed the Power Button for some time, and when I started it up again, my OS X had to be re-installed. O.O WHAT? IS? GOING? ON?

** fixed ** => my issue was caused by Yahoo smtp logout failure attempt on Mail Quit.

I had the issue for 2 months.

My issue was related to a Yahoo smtp logout failure attempt.

I enabled the activity window and I noticed the Yahoo smtp hanged Mail App (and the system shutdown)

I've chaged the Yahoo smtp with the Gmail one and I solved.

Before to try a lot of complicated solution, look at the activity window first while you try to quit.
