Good Afternoon,

About 2 days ago I upgraded to Mac OS X Lion (clean install), and I haven't had any major problems so far in term of system freezes or missing user files. However, today when I shuted down my MacBook Pro it went to a white shutdown screen and showed the gray spinwheel. I waited while Mac it shuted down, the problem was that it didn't do so. After 1minute and 30 seconds I decided to hit  the power button to force shutdown my Mac. I did experienced this one time in SL. I don't know why this happened and the only thwo things that I did before shutdown was to browse the web in Safari watch Youtube videos and some Facebook and when I proceeded with shutdown all my programs were close and also uncheck the "resume" check box option in the shutdown dialog.

After booting back from that strange shutdown I checked the system logs and theres no reference of a improper shutdown whatsoever. I checked my Library file logs and there was no improper shutdown log either.

Has anyone also experienced this issue in OSX Lion?, also is my Mac OK?

Thanks!

    @vea1083,

I have recently bought MBA 13" (2011) 2 weeks ago. After using for 1 week, I have the same problem (Slow Shutdown) like you.

Now, I have sent my MBA to Apple Service Centre (Since it is still under Warranty!).

I am still waiting for them to fix this issue.

Anyone who has solved this issue, please post the guide.

    Thanks.

    @ vea1083,

The update 10.7.1 is released to Public?

When I check my system preference, I fount that my MBA has 10.7

I have googled around and found that even 10.7.2 is released to developers.

I don't know what is happening.

I am quite new to mac.

And I just get back my MBA from Apple Service Centre and what they did was reformatting the drive and do the clean install of Lion.

Then the shutdown issue is now resolved.

Basically, I just want to have updated version which fixes those bugs. Cos no one knows what is going to happen if I install some printer driver and that will cause the slow shutdown again!

Any Guru Help is much appreciated.

I've experienced the same shut down problem on my MBP 17" (built mid 2009). The problem already occurred now and then under OSX 10.6, and unfortunately has not disappeared after upgrading to OSX 10.7. The last few days the MBP hangs almost every time when shutting down... Already reset PRAM/SMC (as suggested in other threads), repaired permissions, but with no positive result. Maybe a clean install of OSX 10.7 will help, but that will involve a lot of time. I'm therefore very interested in any other suggestions of solving this issue.

    Hi vea1083,

Yesterday I did a clean install of Lion, hoping that this would solve the failed shutdown problem. Unfortunately not... Below please find my System.log of a (rather short) session today ending up with a failed shutdown. During this session of 30 minutes, I prepared and sent an email in MS Outlook 2011 and I launched Safari.

I'm not an expert in reading and interpreting system logfiles, maybe someone else can. Until now I was wondering whether the problem could be related to one or more MS Office 2011 applications, but Safari may also be a clue (although I cannot think of any specific causes).

BTW vea1083, do you happen to run Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Mac on your MBP? I do and I found another discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15426687#15426687) suggesting that this application may cause hanged shutdowns. I will check whether turning off KAV will cause the shutdown problems to disappear.
