Safari won't download files

Shortly after installing Lion Safari stopped downloading files. It woked for a litle while but now all I get is a grey screen. I can download fine using Firefox. I've tried deleting cache, reseting Safari and turning off/uninstalling extensions.

Symantec ... not good. If you really want to have a/v software installed on a Mac, use either ClamXav or Sophos.

ClamXav

Free Antivirus for Mac - Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Edition

Both are free and won't cause problems with your browser(s).

It's almost impossible to remove all Symantec software it's so invasive.

This is the results of a forum search for Safari / Symantec / Norton;

Just so you are aware of the issues.

Hi,

I am having the same problem here, I also use 'Speeddownload' which has worked with no problem for years. What does not make sense is that on some web sites I can download, no problem. But not via SD but via the 'Safari Download option', other times I just get the drak grey screen.

For example I have just tried to download this

" http://download.skype.com/macosx/Skype_5.3.0.1074.dmg " ----------- nothing not a dam thing just a dark grey screen. And one other thing I am still on SL not Lion so all I can think of is that this is a Safari 5.1 problem. So I have a question, can I go back to Safari 5 or even version 4, if so where can I download it from please ( a link would be nice ).

And before anyone else ask's I don't have LSnitch or any Symantec SW, I do have Sophos.

Funny thing Honcho I just tried to install an older version ( 5.0.6 ) and guess what, it won't let me.

All I hope is that there is someone in Apple ( hey guys anyone there !!!! ) who is reading all of this Discussion and get's to the bottom of it ( the problem ).

Just might give up on Safari and go to either Firefox or even Camino at least they work properly .....
