Greetings,
In the first place there are not millions of you having this trouble, just a few, and there is a wide variance in your complaints. Most of the time the problem will be with a configuration issue, either at your router, or the local machine, or device. The machine is usually the least likely, so that leaves your router, cable modem/router, or DSL to look at. Some hardware that worked fine with Leopard may not work well with Lion - you may need driver/firmware updates, especially if it's more than a couple of years old.
If you're having trouble at work, see your Network Admin folks, or Network Engineer/Manager. The later is my station in life, at the moment.
We use as near the top of the line equipment on our networks, using a Cisco Router, and Extreme Networks Switches for the hard wired, CAT 5/6 systems, and Aruba for the WiFi. At home I personally use Apple Extreme Base Stations, two of them, so I can reach all around my property. I never have had a dropping WiFi connection issue, or with connectivity, with any of the versions of OS X. I have had a minor glitch here and there, but it was a very simple adjustment in each case.
I'm also not saying that people aren't having troubles, here and there, but don't blame OS X Lion, if it had a problem there would be some real issues, and screaming world wide, and a **** of a lot more people complaining than there is now. Apple uses the current IEEE networking standards, and some equipment out there, may not be up to par with this OS, as it has th every latest in standards. It's usually a firmware thing on the little home routers, as I mentioned before, or a way out of whack configuration setting, someplace.
As far as a Fan Boy, I hardly fit that clasification - I'm just an old network engineer that's been around in this business since the 60s when things were really weird. I work with all platforms, not just Apple. If I have an issue with Apple, or Mickey Soft, or any other tech company, I'm on the phone to their support, and pronto, and I do have to call them from time to time.
We, the world, goes though these issues every time there is a new OS, every time, and most of the time it's something simple that the average user should know how to correct or configure. There is the Apple Genius bar, and I know they don't always get it right, but you can ask for escallation, talk to a manager, etc. Apple has, in the past, put out updates to make things more fool proof, more universal, etc, after they receive a number of complaints, and if there is a common denominator that shows up.
As far as doing Apple a favor, I do, I've been a developer, am currently an Apple Systems Engineer, and carry several certs fro them as well as for Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, UNIX, etc. Believe me if they need to be criticized, critiqued, get a butt chewing, I'll be there to do so, if need be. Do I like Apple? Yes, I do, I like the way they do business, most of their innovations, and the quality of the products. I've owned Apple products since the late 70s - and, Yes, I'm a happy camper.
Cheers,
M.
