DON'T UPDATE TO LION!

I couldn't be more unsatisfied with OS X Lion. First, problems with Safari (and sometimes I got to restart because it has some problem with Youtube), problems with Finder, my network it's completely deconfigured in comparation with my old Snow Leopard, and now the sound has gone with NO reasons. I hear the sound of the volume going up and down, but can't play Youtube and even iTunes! With all the respect, I thought Apple was different from Microsoft, but now that become this big, feels like thinks the same way.

DO NOT UPDATE TO LION! Don't waste your money with a software that have a lot of issues to get fixed.

Take the advice from someone who has done their time at Apple Discussions, and upgrade to Lion ASAP!

It is Apple's best OS so far. I have been running it on 3 different machines dating back to 2008. The OS has proved flawless.

You will be pleasantly surprised by how Lion enhances your Mac experience.

Well, yes, of course, there is a reason for everything. However, the, "there's nothing wrong with mine so there's something wrong with you," attack that is all too common here is simply not helpful.

Neither is it helpful to accuse someone of saying "there's something wrong with you" when that is not what they said.

Some people read "user error" into almost anything that suggests there might be a problem other than with the OS itself. User error is only one of the possibilities, so why jump to that conclusion without good cause?

Indeed! That's why you don't understand that not having noticed any problems yourself is not relevant to the problems others are reporting, and possibly why you may not even understand what you're seeing with your own computers.

On the contrary, I noticed several, but I had planned for that by installing on external drives until I had the solutions.

shurik1973,

It looks like Luke hasn't given an answer, but I'd be happy to present the way Lion enhanced my Mac experience. Personally, I think it's the most significant upgrade since Spotlight appeared.

1. Instant contextual definitions. I could only do this with difficulty on select applications, but now it's universal. In seconds, you can get definitions, synonyms, etc. as a part of the system. No more having to use a widget or application.

2. Reading list for access to links. I usually juggle several sites and questions (like the Apple Support Forums), and Reading List keeps them all in one place, on the desktop. A nice feature, very easy to use.

3. Safari navigation. Every session, on Safari, using gestures like a two-finger swipe immediately moves you to the previous screen. Or three fingers to access all active processes at once. I use this constantly.

4. Drop Copy. I have a MBP and iMac, and Drop Copy lets me share files instantly without having to use USB sticks or email. Really easy, and intuitive.

5. Preview hasa new dimension. Now, I can view documents in a smaller preview window to remind me what the content of a file is, regardless of the application. I don't use Preview a lot, but the information I get is right on target.

I'm still learning how to use Lion, and certainly there are some features that will be tweaked over time. And others, I probably won't use. But for me, Lion's features are very significant.

I agree with LukeD. Lion is the best OS I've seen from Apple so far. I've had zero issues with the OS on three different computers; three different generations of Macs. Including an i7 iMac, i7 Macbook Pro and a Macbook 13". Flawless upgrades on all three and impressive performance and enhancements.

Unless you have some weird setup on your Mac I would recommend upgrading to Lion ASAP.

I downloaded Lion and my iMac and my 1994 Dodge Caravan burst into flames and the smell from my dog's singed fur made my daughter pass out and hit her head on our lawn mower, which was running, and that naturally made me blame Apple for being just like Microsoft 'cause they're big and powerful now and have more liquidity than the US Fed.......

Honestly, hyperbole here is WILD AND FANTASTIC AND I'M NOT READING IT ANYMORE NOR EVER BUYING AN APPLE PRODUCT AGAIN - SHAME ON YOU STEVE JOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(sincerely, I love Lion and haven't had a whiff of a problem and I've installed it on two iMacs, one MacBook Pro, one MacBook and one broken down, should be put out of its misery, 2007 model iMac. All run more briskly than under SL)

The comment that was in reference to did imply that the target of the comment didn't know what they were doing and similar comments were directed at me in another thread by the same person. It is one of the more unseemly and disappointing aspects of the Apple Discussions that the people you would most expect to know better often appear to be the most clueless when it comes to decorum.

That is simply not practical for an IT manager who has a large number of Macs to attend to.

In fact, my advice to any other IT manager out there who might be reading this would be to hold off on Lion upgrades for now, it's just not stable enough at this point to risk upgrading mission-critical computers. Apple needs to fix its performance problems first. It looks to me like Apple is using the first wave of upgraders as the final phase of beta testing.

>But other than AirDrop, all these, just like the majority of 250+ features promoted by Apple, are just minor UI enhancements, IMHO. Nothing makes me say, oh wow! I don't know how I ever lived without it.

I agree. I have a host of new problems that I didn't have before I upgraded three of my Macs to Lion, and no noticeable improvements in anything. In fact, AirDrop doesn't work on my 2007 iMac, and that is my primary computer in my home office, so it's useless for transferring files between it and my MBP.

Oops, sorry, have to run. My Lion-upgraded Mac mini just crashed again.

Those security enhancements are important for those who don't practice good computer security, but I'm not sure how much they may be offset by the stability issues plaguing some model Macs since the "upgrade."

As for Lion Server, it is an Internet security disaster. Apple should be embarrased, and system administrators should be leery.
