DON'T UPDATE TO LION!

I couldn't be more unsatisfied with OS X Lion. First, problems with Safari (and sometimes I got to restart because it has some problem with Youtube), problems with Finder, my network it's completely deconfigured in comparation with my old Snow Leopard, and now the sound has gone with NO reasons. I hear the sound of the volume going up and down, but can't play Youtube and even iTunes! With all the respect, I thought Apple was different from Microsoft, but now that become this big, feels like thinks the same way.

DO NOT UPDATE TO LION! Don't waste your money with a software that have a lot of issues to get fixed.

Reading this with great interest and I guess I'm one of the exceptions here. I downloaded and installed Lion on my 2009 mbp13 (4gb ram) without any issues at all, then purchased a new 11" mba (i5 4/128) with Lion.

I've been working back and forth with the two, to migrate data to the air, using wifi (n600 netgear router) for remote disk and sharing.... all of the features I require seem to be working as designed. There is success for some end users.

I can't think of any software vendor on any OS platform that's ever rolled out a perfect product on ver.0, (in this case such a massive change in functionality could almost be considered ver.0) there are just too many end user configurations to consider every scenario.

For those that are not having success I can only suggest that you step back and re examine your configurations and start over. For novices reading this that haven't made the switch yet, always remember to prepare a back out plan to a full restore before you install anything new.

I think the model and release date of a Mac has a lot to do with how well the Lion upgrade goes. My 2007 iMac is stable with Lion although some things are noticeably slower than they were under SL, like wifi performance, Doc animation and app launches in general.

The fan goes racing away on my 2009 MacBook Pro at odd times, even when it doesn't appear to be under any kind of load, and battery time has dropped off significantly. I've also encountered the login bug a few times that is described in the link I posted previously and it also has some of the same sluggish performance issues as my iMac.

As for the Mac mini I have connected to my A/V amp via HDMI, it is an unmitigated disaster. Video is often blanked when I switch back to it after using another device and it won't wake up, sometimes it crashes outright and won't restart until I reset the SMC, the iTunes window keeps resizing itself to fit the lowest resolution setting, and the cache appears to become corrupted after streaming for a while, which clobbers streaming and requires a reboot of the mini to clear. It makes me wonder if Apple even bothered to test Lion on a Mac mini before they released it.

Don't be so eager to recommend Lion to others, experiences appear to vary depending on the specific Macs in question.

Another fine Lion installation here. No WiFi problems, no issues other than the known issue of Rosetta disappearing. I've done what everyone should do with any operating system install:

1. Backup!

2. Backup!

3. Backup!

Read up on how to prevent pitfalls installing. And I even went as far as to make documentation on hwo to do so*:

Well, been living with Lion for a while now.

Here's what I have to say.

-I have seen the HDMI issues that capaho has with his

Mini. I do have a stable procedure to have it working

well. However, beyond that and the annoying audio issue

that started back with 10.6.8 and was left go through to

Lion, upgrading to Lion for an HTPC gives no improvement

or ease of use for that configuration. The only reason

to upgrade would be to be compatible with the "cloud".

(could iCloud turn into the fabled Skynet and the machines take

over?)

-My 2011 MBP 13" i7. Lion has made this piece of gear

a lot better to work with. Actually, it is cooler and has longer

battery life than before.

-My early 2009 iMac. It is a pretty underwhelming upgrade for

it. Although, I am one of those (please don't stone me) that

actually like Mission Control.

Bottom line, if you have something that can make use of the

new features or your usage of the computer can benefit, then

upgrade. If not, don't.
