HDMI - Samsung and Mac Mini

I have a MacMini that I bought specially for its HDMI port. I bought 2 Samsung TA550 monitors and CANNOT get both to work. The HDMI connection yields a terrible image which is unacceptable.

I connect the first monitor using its VGA port. That works great.

The second monitor is connected through a HDMI port, and the image is very, very bad.

I have tried HDMI > DVI > VGA cables but they do not seem to work.

I am not satisfied with the Mac Mini and the Samsung monitors. I don't know which one to blame for the problem, but I am not happy with the outcome.

I even upgraded to OSX Lion, but nothing changed.

Anybody have any solution to my problem ?

Tks

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7)

On the Apple TV thing... No not yet The Apple TV "toy" is next on my list but i'll let you know if i find anything unusual. I'm Happy to hear everyones Samsung Video is looking better after changing the title for the type of signal at the input. I can't figure out why such a serious ommission has made it past so many revisions of the emanuals. Perhaps it'll make it into future product guides so everyone can stop waisting so much time figuring it out.

Did you know that apple use LG Displays in their iMac's, Thunderbolt display's AND LED Cinema displays? Yes, it is very wierd that your LG Display's are not working with your Mac. There's a reason why Samsung Displays don't work sometimes... I feel that it is to do with samsung copying apple. OR to do with the displays being old and outdated, or they're just messed up. ANNOYING. 😠

Hy! I just bought a MacBook Pro 2012 (not with Retina) and now I'm using it with a Samsung SyncMaster T260HD external display. I bought a Thunderbolt to HDMI port and it works.

At first time there was no sound, but the easy settings have solved the problem.

System Preferences » Sound and click on your Device... voilá.

This definatly works, I was gutted and tried lots of solutions to the poor screen resolution, then I followed this advice.

Looks superb now, full 1080p resolution.

First of all, you should ensure your are using native resolution....as SAMSUNG (serial no of your model), you should choose 1080p

If it's still blurry, then..

Go to "applications"->"utilities"->"terminal"

copy and paste

Code:

defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 2

Enter

Restart mini

Boom, everything's gonna be fine

Used this solution with the DVI-PC Configuration in the Edit name tool on a Samsung 27TA500. WORKED perfectly!!!

EDIT: If you are using a 2011+ Macbook capable of sending audio through HDMI, choose "PC" not "DVI PC"

DVI PC will treat your signal like classic DVI (duh) requiring a separate route of audio from your MacBook 1/8" phone port to the Samsung's PC DVI/Audio In.

Kind of obvious but I missed it.

Thanks again for the fix!

Amazing fix for the audio output via HDMI for the Mac Mini late 2012 model.

Thanks!!!!

I had poor display results using HDMI with 4 different monitors (Samsung, Asus, HP and Dell) that I bought in succession to go with my new mac mini. Using the minidisplay port to VGA adaptor was marginally better than HDMI to HDMI. I finally solved the problem buy buying a Dell Ultrasharp U2412M monitor with Displayport input. It works great. Fortunately I was able to return all 4 other monitors for refunds. The U2412M I finally bought is however about $200 more than the others were.

I got mine working perfectly. "Amazing" is the response here.

So I did the input renaming thing before this to no effect so that might have something to do with it but heres what I did after that to make it look good.

on Mac:

- settings

- displays

- move mouse over to menu on samsung tv

- select "Display", then for Resolution, switch it to "Best for display"
