I use the blade tool and make a cut, continue to play to make another cut, but the play head disappears. The clip still plays normally, but the yellow play head is gone, how do I get this back?

Same problem. But workrounds should not be needed. This is a buggy program that I do not expect of Apple. 10.0.2 fixes (released 4 days ago) one problem (reverting title fonts or simply wiping the text) when quitting and re-starting. But there are still crashes, the awful titler and the lost playhead. Other controls are clunky. I used to curse Adobe Premiere Elements for crashing (never corrected and only made possible to use by saving after every few changes). But at least Premiere Elements is really cheap and has a number of much better features (the titler is far less clunky and adaptable) than FCPX.
As a relatively new Mac convert, FCP X is a major disappointment. New ways of working are one thing but bugs which would be spotted by any half competent tester in so-called professional software are another. The bugs are not esoteric; they show very quickly when editing virtually anything. The phrases 'not fit for purpose' and 'not of merchantable quality' when released comes to mind. Apple needs urgent testing and bug fixes to take place if they are to restore confidence in the brand.
Same problem here... It appeared for me with FCPX 10.0.1.

Has this playhead problem only started happening for you with the update version? Do you use the skimmer and playhead or the playhead alone?
For me it started with the update. I use skimmer and playhead.
When the playhead moves back to the beginning does the timeline move with it back to the beginning?
Exactly right - immediately after the update.
I use skimmer and playhead together.
