Hi,

This thread is coming up on 6 years old and Rochelle was the one asking the Question in the first place.

AS the various answers say you can stop using an Apple ID but it will still exist.

HI,

Login to the Store

Login to your account.

Choose to Edit the payment method.

Choose None.

When you login to the Store you can choose to use another Apple ID.

Rarely does Apple close and Apple ID. Even if you are dead Apple require a Death Certificate.

Basically Apple IDs can be retired rather than closed/removed from their list - you can remove it from the apps it is used with. (NOTE not all of them are iCloud apps)

Hi,

Wait until you want to test something and are grateful you have access to something to use.

Apple does it for a reason or two.

1) When they launched @Mac.com names they said they (the IDs) were "for Life". Trial accounts could only be resurrected by you so that no-one can later pretend to be you.

2) They do not clear out Old, apparently, Unused IDs for similar reasons.

They are one of the few places where I know this to still be happening. About 5 years ago AIM started to release what they considered to be unused names.

Anyhow...

Also open the Keychain Access App in Applications/Utilities

Find any references to the IDs in the password section and Delete.

That way anyone who gains access to your computer also cannot find them.

If you have Lion you will also need to remove them from the new pane to the Left of MobileMe one in System Preferences that deals with email and other internet "Names".

Hi,

The Simple Answer Is No.

There is a big notification warning you that you cannot change it just before you comfirm the use of the linked email address you used.

You may be able to make progress from here though

My problem is the same as those above--two AppleIDs. For one, Apple is asking me to change my user name to my email address, but I can't because my other ID has my email address as my user name. Can't I combine the two AppleIDs? The reason I want to do it is that I've tried many times to unsubscribe from email messages over the course of two months, but I keep getting them. I follow the unsubscribe link and it looks like I've already unsubscribed. But I continue to get the email messages I don't want.

HI

I had heard that Apple wants to have email Only IDs

It is not possible to Collate two accounts and even less so with two Apple Support Communities accounts (joining the points and level as it were) It an cause havoc with iTunes as well.

If you have Lion or an iOS 5 device you can create an iCloud ID.

This would link the current Apple ID to an username@me.com name (you choose the username part)

Then you go here http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/

Chose the Manage account option and sign in as the Apple ID that is not an Email

You should then be able to list the @me.com name as the Primary email.

( I must admit that when I try this it protests that I am trying to create another Apple ID with a MobileMe name but I already have a email listed - i Just don't want that one for my notifications)

On the email front go to the top of the page and select Your Stuff (Click and Hold)

Click Settings and then change the tab to email Notifications and sort the lsit to be as you want it.

HI,

If you have two Apple ID s and have used both in iTunes or the App Store then those Purchases will be authorised for that ID.

In iTunes you can Copy your Music to CDs

These can then be re-imported which may help.

IF you suddenly find you have an iCloud Issued @me.com name then you may find that they are in fact one and the same account.

I have an Apple ID based on an old Dial-up email address which I use here and in iTunes.

When iOS 5 came ut I used that name to create my iCloud Account which gave me the @me.com email I have.

I can sign in using either name and the password is the same for both.

I am having a similar issue. I originally created an apple ID with my school email address years ago. Now I have to verify my email address but I no longer have access to that email account and can't verfiy it. Do you have any other suggestions? Also, when I updated my iphone last night I lost most of my pictures and apps. Do you know why this happens and what I can do to get these pictures back?? Please help. Thank you.

Hi,

This link from an earlier post should be the place to add a second email.

Then you go here http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/

For the other I would ask in the iPhone Communities
