I notice in the same folder there are .plist files for your options for each screensaver.

You may want to delete this too if you are still having issues

Not too sure what this may have fixed for you but it made no difference to me, in fact this webpage doesn't seem to reflect the problems that all of us are having. It's not that the saver isn't working at all, it's that it launches but there is no content shown.

To reconfirm, this was working after the upgrade to Lion and has suddenly stopped working for the users of this thread, ergo there must be a common change happened either at local or server level, my money's on the latter.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has positive or negative feedback after trying above.

Hmmm...

That's kind of funny that apple wants to say its not supported in Lion, because it is installed by Lion by default.

During my original attempt to upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion, my hard drive failed. Thankfully the very first thing I did before I had started the upgrade was make a bootable SDcard installer of Lion.

So I took the opportunity to order an SSD to replace the dead drive, and did a completely clean install of Lion, and sure enough Word of the Day screensaver is installed by default. And then just a few days ago, it randomly stopped working for me, just like everyone else is reporting.

I did a little digging on this, and from what I can tell WOTD does not regularly dial out to get its words. If you're curious to look at the word list, go to /System/Library/Graphics/Quartz Composer Plug-Ins. Control-click (right-click) on WOTD.plugin and choose Show Package Contents. In that window go to /Contents/Resources and open NOAD_wotd_list.txt. There are all your words!

I was even able to get it somewhat working by replacing the WOTD.plugin with the same file from OS 10.6.8. Unfortunately that doesn't completely work, because it doesn't display the definitions, which is pretty much the whole point!

I'm thinking it must be an issue with the plugin communicating with Dictionary.app
