How do I set up WebDAV on the server?

I have a MacMini with Lion Server. I am trying to set up WebDAV to work with my iPad. Is there anywhere I can find a detailed description or manual to do this? I have the user set up correctly and the server is .local. I keep getting "server not found" every time. It appears I am not setting up the server name correctly or not typing it correctly. I selected the "private" setting but I am keeping it local for now without turning on VPN.

Hi All,

I have a Lion Server 10.7.3 on a brand new Mac Mini. I tried everything that was mentioned here, but with no success. Here is what I did....

- Created a user with no admin rights

- Logged in as this user

- Created a share point and gave the user read/write permissions to this sharepoint

- Enabled Share with iOs devices

- Restared Apache

- Tried http://192.168.1.100/webdav/short_username

I am getting a "url not found" error in Safari.

I opened /var/log/apache2/error_log, and i see this error:

File does not exist: /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default/webdav

***????

The share point is not even on thiis volume, let alone in the default web folder that the error log points to.

What am I doing wrong? Am I crazy? Why did Apple make this so **** difficult to do? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I also need to complain that I still can't create subdomains from the Server app, even after 3 updates of Lion Server. I still do those manually. Apple, are you listening at all to your clients?!?!?

alexbet: after trying just about everything in this thread, the only way that I managed to get it to work was to log in as http://<IP address>/webdav/ with nothing following. Every other combination I tried failed in one way or another. After validating I am then presented with the folders that I have set up to share (along with some others, but that's a different problem).

Fred, thanks for the suggestion, but it is not working again. I get a "403 Forbidden" error when I do that.

Does this have anything to do with the subdomains that I have on this server, because with the Server application you can't create subdomains for some reason. This has been a HUGE bug since the release of Lion Server, and Apple hasn't done anything to solve it until now. So, because I am manually entering the subdomains, I am thinking if maybe that has anything to do with it?

That solved my webdav problem...

1. Check all the stuff in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4777

2. If webdav still not works, then ... turn the web service on.

3. Check that your Router forwarding the port 80 and the web service port (in my case port 443).

5. Check webdav with Finder, selecting menu "Go" -> "Connect to Server..." and typing https://myserverdomain.com/webdav/, then enter your short user name (not admin) and your password in the dialog.

6. Be shure that your server certificates are valid.
