Final cut pro x doesn't load projects on external hard drive

I dont believe it, I must say that I thought it was due to the fact that after pluging external drive into other Mac then pluging back it did not work. but there is a AVCHD file in the first area of the file system, now #AVCHD its been turned into a folder.

I just read all of these posts and after trying to rename all my folders I still can't get FCP to recognize my exterior hard drive Here is my screen pic of drive. perhaps someone could help?

Except the last four files have been put into a folder called misc.

How is this external drive Formatted?

I haven't a clue. Someone else set it up for me years ago and I wouldn't know how to find out how it is formatted.

Select the drive on the desktop. Press Cmd-I. What does it say at the top? Post a screen shot if you can.

On "sharing and permissions" it says "You can only read". Is that my problem?

And on format it says windows NT file system (NTFS)

We need read/write permission. It also needs to be formatted for the Mac OS.

Thank you. Now at least I know what to do, if not HOW to do it.

I guess in the meantime I'll keep my projects on the imac drive. I'm learning a new camera, new software and a new operating system all at the same time so I don't need to learn how to format a hard drive at this time. Well, maybe if it's easy.....

You probably don't because it would require erasing the contents of the drive.

I'm having a similar issue - My hard drive is formatted exFAT, and it worked on my mac at home - when I try and use it on my work iMac, the hard drive doesnt show up in FCPx at all. Here's a screenshot of the folder structure. Any ideas?

FCP will only work with Mac OS formatted drives.

You guys are geniuses!!! I have to rename the Private files to #Private and the AVCHDs inside the private folders to A1VCHD and it shows up again!!! I didn't have any problems before, on the same exact computer, with the same exact external drive. For some reason, today was the day it started giving me trouble. Thank you for all the help!

I have had this trouble intermittently - but so consistently I spend equal amounts of time working as I do troubleshooting the ability to open a project that I worked only the day before. One day FINAL CUT PROJECTS import and I'm able to work, the next day they disappear after a momentary appearance. This is INEXCUSABLE. This is such basic operational issue. To not have the OPTION to file/open because a project is supposed to "autoload" - only for that "autoload" function not to work consistently - leaving me with no recourse. Only to go to "Apple help" and see everyone running around renaming files instead of a FIX offered? I'm amazed at the patience Apple customers seem to exercise. Never had this importing trouble with the previous FC7... Beyond annoyed.
