App Store's blank page - final solution

Hi,

There is simple solution for that case (forWindows 7, 64):

1. C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\AppleApplicationSupport 2.0.1

2. Right click

3. Uninstall

4. C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\AppleApplicationSupport 1.5.2

5. Right click

6. Install

7. Restart Windows

It's all

NetNanny is NOT one of the applications in question.

I never made any statement about it.

There is dozens of others to which my statement is true.

It is those I'm talking about.

Hardly anybody in Germany is using that thing, and nobody of all I would know of - instead they are using more or less similar packages, and for all those the winsock reset work-around did the job - disabling those products functionalities, of course.

For what exactly NetNanny is modifying, ask NetNanny support, not me.

Easy everyone - these forums are to discuss problems with Apple related products. As pheb62 indicated earlier, Apple made changes to the itunes software beginning with 10.5 with utilizing the cloud which changed the way itunes hooked into the LSP chain, causing all sorts of problems with existing software. Problems with the store going back to 10.4 were more related to different versions of Apple Application Support which were not universal among windows software versions.

Although other products have responded differently to the way itunes hooks into the chain, as you can see by the numerous postings, it is up to the respective software manufacturers to work with Apple to determine a fix for their software. If you are using outside software that currently conflicts with the itunes LSP chain, please do not expect us to be familiar with them.

And speaking of the LSP chain...

Just fixed iTunes after months of not being able to use it (or Safari). If you have Spyware Doctor with Antivirus (like I do), then this should come in handy:

Basically, PC Tools (who makes Spyware Doctor) knows that there is a conflict between their "PC Tools LSP" and iTunes. And there is a fix for it, so it's worth a shot if nothing else has worked for you so far. 🙂

I spent forever doing what the original post said. Uninstall one thing, install a different version, and I kept getting errors that another program was doing an installation and I couldn't do what I wanted to do.

I finally found this thread that solved my issue of having a blank/white iTunes Store page:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123

It does talk about LSPs. But, I just did a winsock reset and I was good to go. Hopefully it'll work in weeks and months to come as I hear some people do it and it later goes back to a blank store.

I hope this helps others out.

I had the same problems, and none of the fixes worked until I tried TrueLife's link. I went through the intructions and found that a video accelerator program was causing the problem, in my case, Speedbit Accelerator. I uninstalled the program, rebooted, and itunes now works just fine. Thanks for the help!

I don't get it.

Truelife's link leads to nothing else than the "solution" (in fact only a bad work-around) with the netsh winsock reset command, which was presented in the postings above.

The question that remains is:

Why does an installed third-party software LSP break iTunes' store connection, when other software that uses the sockets does NOT have any problems with this and still works??

The only answer to this is that iTunes doesn't make proper use of the sockets.

"Fixing" the sockets only fixes iTunes store connection problem, but breaks the software that needed the installed LSP, which is then disabled.

I really don't know why there are problems with 10.5, but I tried everything listed in this posting (including netsh winsock reset) and other "fixes" from several other postings. None of them worked for me until I found Truelife's post and link. I was lucky in that I really didn't need the program that I uninstalled.

MY FIX

I had a similar problem. There are many solutions, not anyone works for everyone. This is a Windows fix. I think many people here a confusing things, not indicating if their iTunes is running on Windows or MacOS.

Here is what I did:

In the windows file manager, under properties, for each of the files, in the iTunes programs directory.

AppleMobileDeviceHelper

ituneshelper

Synchserver

to xp compatibility mode.

Do NOT change compatibiliy mode on itunes.exe.

It only applies to Window Vista and newer.

It appears that apple does not play nice with Windows. You can either back rev to 10.3, which will correct the file compatibility, or you can fix them manually. They symptoms vary. When you’ve got incompatible code, all bets are off on what it will do.

There is a mistaken notion that the file permissions fix it. That’s not true. It seems that the apple code stops working from Microsoft Windows Vista and forward (7 et. al.)

All the other gyrations in the suggestions above are not necessary. I spent about six weeks on this one. My fix has worked fine now for two weeks, with daily synchs.

The relationship with Microsoft is tenuous, and fixes come late and last, if at all.

BTW, turn off “automatic updates” on iTunes, so you don’t get more bug-laden software from Apple.

Good luck.
