Since installing Lion my printer utility continues to indicate "optial photoconductor needs to be replaced."
I have installed the latest Xerox printer driver for 10.7, but the message remains.
Xerox support says this is an issue with the CUPS printing configuration and Apple is aware of it.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any fixes?

I'm running 10.6.8 and I'm having the "OPC almost at end of life!" error message when trying to print to a Xerox Workcentre 7328 copier. I'm using a Macbook pro. Just installed the latest driver from the Xerox website. No luck.

Getting the error with a Lexmark E120. Worked fine before. Frustrating as I work at a school and it's hard to explain to teachers that there isn't much I can do. 😠

Same issue with Lexmark E250DN. Glad to see it isn't something I've done but disappointed it has drug on this long with no solution.

Yesterday there was a software printer driver update for my printer: Brother DCP-8085DN. It appears to have fixed the problem.
Hopefully, that means the problem will be corrected for other printers soon.
Also had an Update for Xerox – no message now for the 7760 GX. Happy Days
I had this problem with my Xerox 6130n after I upgraded to Lion.
Xerox recently (December 28,2011) posted a driver for lion on their site: http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-6130/downloads/enus.html?operatingSy stem=macosx
I installed it and the error seems to be gone.
Oki C530dn now working ok with new s/w, must have been something on the Apple side as Oki driver is still dated Aug 2011. Still get optical error coming up but its not stopping the printing. Only thing I noticed now is that the printer is stuck in duplex mode and you can not deselect it. Irritating on mail merge letters.
Hmm. My OKI C530dn still has the same problem, even after the 10.7.3 update... 😟
Finally! The new 10.7.3 upgrade seems to have fixed my problem with the 'Optical Photoconductor needs to be replaced' message on Xerox 6360 printers. After upgrading my Xerox driver some time ago, the message appeared but did not seem to interfere with any of the normal printing functions or supply notifications so it was merely an annoyance.
After the Apple update I'm not getting the error on my Dell 3100CN anymore. So glad to have the annoying message gone!
