iTunes 10.4.1 install failed

I just upgraded to 10.4.1.1 I keep getting a message that "ITunes was not installed correctly" (error 7). I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no luck. I have the 32 bit version of Windows vista.

With due respects to markipad and everyone else who is endeavouring to solve this problem.... we all appear to be going around in circles, re-trying steps that have been tried by others before. Undoubtedly, the solution is probably somewhere within all this endeavour.

However, we may all need to accept the fact that Apple's programming for iTunes 10.4 update is flawed!

And, I repeat as I said in another forum: "Hi Markipad, thanks for the lead but it all appears to be same old, same old. We, the Apple users did not create the problem, so why should we be looking to solve it? It is an Apple product, an Apple f*up and Apple's responsibility to fix it! They need to fix it! If they can't fix it then they may lose 1,000s of users!"

I had a very tough time uninstalling Apple Application Support. I had to use Revo uninstaller and also had to manually change file permission to delete the c:\program files\common files\apple folder. After removing all traces of the apple products from my machine I also ran a registry cleaner.

I followed your steps exactly with winrar. When I attempt to install QuickTime.msi, the error message says "The installer encountered errors before the requested operatations for QuickTime could be completed. Please retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again."

A very good point, and well made. I did my full reinstall of Windows 7 (not a major task for me, as I partition my Hard drive to keep all my data separate) and installed iTunes 10.4.1 without a hitch - , but why should I have to perform open-heart surgery on my PC to deal with an iTunes update??

Can I suggest that everyone with the 10.4.1 update problem posts to this thread, and perhaps Apple might take notice?

I suspect that prior to your complete Windows 7 reinstall, that the windows registry was corrupt in some way. A great utility to keep your registry in order is Registry Mechanic by PC Tools. Unfortunately it's not free, but I think it is well worth the money and has kept my laptop running smooth. Assuming that Windows 7 is working properly, completely uninstalling all Apple software in the proper order, then installing iTunes 10.4.1 should have worked.

There is no need to reinstall your operating system. The problem can be fixed in about 1/2 hr by doing this: Uninstall the following programs using windows 'Add or Remove Programs' in Control Panel (All your preferences, downloads, files and settings will be left intack as they are stored in separate folders. However, using other registry programs may remove this data). It needs to be done in the order listed so that all files are completely removed (no residual files will be left); 1) iTunes; 2) Quick Time; 3) Apple Software Update; 4) Apple Mobile Devoce Support; 5) Bonjour; and, 6) Apple Application Support. You can now reinstall iTunes from Apple Website - but remember not to choose 'Automatic Updates'! Cheers, Brian ):

I have a similar issue.

I've installed and uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime about 6 times now (once at the Apple genius bar) per the instructions on the Apple Support page. When I did this in the office, physically connected to the network with a cable, I was able to complete an install and even refresh my podcasts. When I try the same thing at home (no longer connected to the Server in the office), I get the error message which started the entire problem:

"Quick Time was not found. Quick Time is required to run iTune. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes agaiin."

What gives? It used to work seamlessly! Thanks. I'm a damsel in distress!

Jeanette

PS I run windows 7 home premium

Thanks Brian-oz for your input: I am sure your method would work IF I hadn't already tried to rectify the problem myself by uninstalling iTunes etc in my own way! The problem for me was that the situation had developed far far beyond this, and despite subsequently attempting to uninstall in the "Apple Approved" order, it did not work, and various files and folders were impossible to remove by now.

To save further frustration, and wasting even more time, the simple work round for me was to reinstall the OS.

Running Windows 7 Professional and have not been able to update iTunes from 10.3 to 10.4.0 or 10.4.1. Keeps throwing error: "This installer is intended for 32-bit versions of Windows. Please obtain the 64-bit installer from http:www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourfor windows.html."

From the download section I downloaded 10.4.1 x64 but it popped up with the same error when I try to intall it.

Will just stick with 10.3 until another release shows up...
