iTunes 10.4.1 install failed

I just upgraded to 10.4.1.1 I keep getting a message that "ITunes was not installed correctly" (error 7). I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no luck. I have the 32 bit version of Windows vista.

What I learned from my experience with 10.4.1 is that there seems to be conflicting information that is held in temporary files in Windows that creates a propblem with this particular update.

I did a lot of trial and error and I an NOT an expert so all I can suggest is listen to the advice of those that are and clean out your temp files.

Interestingly what finally worked was the last download from the Apple website that when loaded and working was 10.4.10. Does that make a difference - I don't know.

I have had exactly the same problem - an "error occured", "install manually" (which failed too) and "it's neccessary to install Quicktime" which I have had for ages!! I tried MANY times.

But today I went to http://www.apple.com/dk/itunes/download/ and I could see that they now have two different download choises of 10.4.1 - and since my PC is 37-bit, I chose the first one for Windows XP, Vista oe Windows 7 (which I have) and then I downloaded iTunes - without uninstalling anything first!! The downloaded version is 10.4.10 and it works perfect!!

Try that and good luck!

Thanks, I never thought I would be able to find such an easy solution to this problem which has bothered me for nearly two months, I have repeatedly been told that the new version 10.4.1 is available whenever I opened iTunes (and often without opening as well), but I never succeded, it was downloaded but installation failed, also when I tried to install it manually. I phoned Apple for support in Norway, but they were not able to give me any help, just told me a lot of nonsense which did not work. But downloading it directly from Apple/iTunes with uninstalling anything worked beautifully (I have Windows 7-64 bit)

I've been in and (mostly) out of the discussion -- sorry. I've been lurking while traveling overseas.

I followed the Apple support instructions, followed the advice of the thread but still no cigar. Finally, iTunes announced another upgrade, ver.10.5. This works and I can now sync my ipod nano again.

Phew. This was a long period of things not working correctly.

Thanks for the suggestions on this thread.
