Why won't Apple bring back "Save As" since "Duplicate" clearly *****?

I think the question speaks for itself.

A sad day indeed.

So has this question been answered after 2 months? Oh I see the OP marked 'their' question as answered two days after posting it and this is just the racial and personal insult section.

For those who hate this feature that much there is Snow Leopard or Windows, or else learn to adjust as millions of others have. Those who have recently bought their first Mac had it come with Lion and knew no other way and seem to be very happy using it. This forum is representative of only a hand full of users, so try posting your complaint/dislike to

So your suggestion is that I should adjust to the Mac, the mac shouldn't adjust to me? Now that iCloud has replaced MobileMe, Snow Leopard is no longer an option. If my car were suddenly "upgraded" with square wheels would you be telling me to just deal with it as well? Because Apple just reinvented the wheel, and left us with a less-elegant solution.

Yes, or else don't use it. Imagine if Apple tried to cater for everybody's individual little needs. They would have an absolutely unusable OS. As it is, they are making a product that they feel meets the market needs and are selling it. It is called business. You can buy it or buy a competitor, it is called choice. Millions have opted to buy it and have no problems. A few come to these trouble shooting forums and learn how to adapt or how to deal with issues between their software/hardware or software/third party apps, etc. Others come here to whinge that Apple didn't do something that suited them or the extreme minority.

Rather simple when I think about it now, and if I want square wheels, I would look for them and buy them. Choice, I think I mentioned.

That's the dumbest reply and worst effort at sarcasm I have ever seen! lol At least make an effort.

We could have Spaces, Expose, Mission Control, Launchpad, Magic Windows Plus, 3 Column view, half Grey Curtain thingeys and .... no we would need more function keys. APPLE!!!!!

Then we could duplicate the 'saved as' saved versions of previously versioned locked saved 'saved as' and........

We would all be happy. Now who will write the code?

Well, I've read a lot in this thread and similar ones, and I want to congratulate you for making the single most ridiculous statement I've seen in all of them put together.

No one is asking Apple to cater to their "individual little" needs here. They have the same simple request. They're asking for the system of document management that was:

1) in place for 27 years;

2) used exclusively by "millions" during that time frame; and

3) worked perfectly for the purposes of responsible computer users

to be preserved.

In an effort to make a "better" computing experience for some, Apple has now created a decidedly worse computer experience for others.

If you've read any of these threads of all (or elsewhere on the web), you'll see that far more than a "hand full" [sic] of users are involved, and also that this goes far beyond failure to "adapt" or "get with the program," which is the facile, all-purpose answer smart-**ses like you come up with.

I have asked this question in several of these forums, and not a single soul has come up with a cogent answer to it...they haven't even come close:

What would be wrong with a Lion operating system in which Auto Save/Versioning were the default, but capable of being disabled in Preferences?

It's a very simple question — I challenge you to give a simple answer.

At what? Incoherence? Seems to me that's already been done. Congratulations again.

Small point of order...the "code" for what is being requested in this thread is already in existence, and has been in some form for 27 years.

Of course, that will be far to logical to cut any ice with you.

DChord has covered much of what I woould have said here, but there are two further points that seem to elude you.

1) Before the Lion upgrade, my Macbook could Save As. Now, it can't. There was no warning of this change in any of the promos, emailsor videos I saw imploring me to upgrade to Lion. So from my perspective, I just paid Apple to make my computer less capable than it once was. This is new territory. I've never bought an upgrade that was actually a downgrade before. I had tried to avoid the upgrade, but I had to get Lion to accommodate iCloud just to maintain the functions I already had through MobileMe. I didn't seek the square wheels, they sought me.

2) I (like most people) don't have the resources to buy a new computer whenever I want, so pretending I can just buy a new one is facile. I spent a lot of time thinking about what to buy, and I picked a product that did everything I wanted. Now, it does less. It's okay for me to complain about that fact and try to change it. "Love it or leave it" is not an argument winner, it's a tantrum. The fact that you're relying on it so soon is actually a pretty good sign that you've lost the argument already. And your rude "yawn" at DChord is a pretty good sign that you realize you've lost it as well.

Yawwwwnnnn. It's all been said here a hundred times. Tell Apple through their feedback page. It's only the same old names moaning about it and not being able to handle change. Same old comments after every system update over the years. When the next OS comes out, the same old names will scream about how great Lion was. Been happening here since the forums started.

As I said, this is a users forum, tell Apple, no one here can do anything.

You said a lot of other things as well Neil. And they didn't hold up to scrutiny. So now you're relying on being an *** and telling me to just go away. This is the argumentative equivalent of a monkey flinging it's own poo. I don't recall inviting you into the conversation, so I don't really get this whole beleaguered respondent act of yours. But since you have heroically taken it upon yourself to moan and ***** about my legitimate issue and loss of capability, I will tell you that I have already complained directly to Apple, and received the expected lack of response.

But you seem incapable of admitting that Apple committed a huge unforced error here. You've done nothing to argue that the new system is better, merely that I should just accept the change or buy a new computer with my infinite resources since "It is called business." Most of your assertions are evidence-free. How did you come by the knowledge that "Millions have opted to buy it and have no problems?" Have you been surveying them? Has anyone? Talking to Apple support is like talking to a monolith that isn't allowed to accep the premise that you could have had a problem with their software. So the only place where users can get any kind of response is in a users forum. And I am just awfully awfullysorry that you've had to endure me talking about the loss of Save As in a forum entitled:

Why won't Apple bring back "Save As" since "Duplicate" clearly *****?

Who could ever have predicted that such a forum would have complaints about the loss of "Save As?" If only there was some way you wouldn't have to listen! If only! Sadly, we don't live in such a world Neil. Apparently we live in a world where you have nothing better to do than hang around forums you're not interested in and rudely tell people not to talk about their clearly labeled subject matter.

Nov 3, 2011 1:45 AM in response to Doug in Valley Village

Not your post, and the OP marked it with a correct answer. Read the ToU and realise it's a forum. 99% of people here are troubleshooting their problems, others are whinging. I have as much right to state why Save As will most likely never return as much as you have to cry to Apple Developers who don't participate in these forums. Again, READ. It is user to user. I am a user, so are you, we are entitled to our opinions and I believe you are stuck in the past. You have opposite views. So be it, but I have as much right to be here as you.

Now tell Apple in their feedback, they are not listening to you here, no matter how much you sook and rant. Check with and experienced users here, Apple are not hearing you. But you believe what you want.

Happy Days

Doug, you're wasting your time trying to respond logically to an individual who imagines that "Yawn" is a cutting-edge response in a forum. You can just hear hear Neil congratulating himself on his cleverness as he posted this. Welcome to 1991, Neil!

All of us, of course, already HAVE sent feedback to Apple with regard to this issue. The argument that these are strictly technical support forums in which no general venting is permitted is just as tired as "Yawn" is. It only takes a simple glance at the right-hand columm of this page to see how many similarly themed forums exist here. Tell me, has Apple shut any of them down yet for violation of Terms of Usage?

It's equally ludicrous to assert that Apple would create these forums, and yet not a single Apple employee would ever bother to check in to get a sampling of user base opinion. And despite knowing assurances that nothing anyone can say will change Apple's mind, there are many instances in which a feature has been scrapped or altered due to user outcry.

It's obvious that Neil lacks the intellectual fortitude to give an intelligent answer to your concerns or mine, so he'll simply ignore the questions he has no answer for, including my most recent one. Instead, he'll just robotically parrot the same "you're stuck in the past" mantra.

If the present consists of individuals with his level of intelligence, then perhaps the past is a better place to be.

(Hey Neil — please respond to this post with "Yawn" again...it's just so darn cute!)
