Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

The Audio and Video are out of sync in Final Cut 7, but playback correctly in the Quicktime Player and Adobe Premiere Pro?

The Audio and Video are out of sync in Final Cut 7, but playback correctly in the Quicktime Player and Adobe Premiere Pro

.

So that you know: this isn’t just in the timeline/canvas (sequence settings, etc); the clips are also out of sync in the viewer. This also rules out a rendering problem.

The plot thickens: The clips play back perfectly fine in Adobe Premiere Pro and Quicktime.

- And not just the clips - when I exported my project from FCP as an XML file, then imported the FCP project into A.P.Pro… and everything works fine, runs fine, and in sync.

To save you (my potential helpers) a little time:

I already went here

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1846

and deleting all the prefs doesn’t solve the problem.

Also: I fixed this before by going into A/V settings and changing the playback to built-in output. But it's not changing anything now.

I’ve started new projects in FCP, imported the same footage (which plays back fine anywhere else), and got the same results: out of sync.

For now, I’ll continue editing in A.P.Pro (though I have to say I feel like I am betraying Apple somehow...!😀)

Thanks much...!

Did you try converting to prores?

Although it seems unlikely, this kind of problem can be caused if you captured over a timecode break or if you had dropped frames during capture. I would think you would see the same problem in other apps. But just in case, do you have "abort capture on dropped frames" and "create new clip on timecode break" enabled in your preferences.

Do you know anyone else with fcp7 and can test the file to see if the problem is caused by something specific to your system?: If not, if you can find a file that's not too big, you could either upload it to your idisk (if you got one) and send me the link upload it to my idisk. If you want my idisk info, email my directly. My email is in my profile.

No, I didn't try converting to ProRes. I will if you think it should make a difference.

I do.

No, Macs haven't really caught on very widely here in N.W Africa... yet!

I should probably just recapture my footage again - and see what's what.

Thank you so much for the offer of the iDisk upload...

For now, I have a little bit of a deadline to meet - so it looks like it will be A.P.Pro for a stretch.

Thank you all for your time and assistance - I seriously appreciate it.

we're all flying blind here, so who knows whether a prores conversion would help. One thing you might try that would only take a moment, and it's a stab in the dark; Open a file in cinematools and do a conform to 23.986. All this is doing is changing the way quicktime (and quicktime compliant apps) is reading the frame rate. Could be something is corrupted there that only fcp is having a problem with.

Good luck and if you want to return to the problem later, let us know.
