Ipad 2: replace broken screen

Will Apple replace the broken glass for my Ipad2 which have just bought in 1 month?

And any Apple stores in Vietnam can do it?

Thank you so much!

Regardless of how mature/responsible/good with stuff you think he is, HE IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD!

You are correct in that he broke it by accident, which is why you (as the supposedly responsible parent) don't let him use it unless he is sitting on the floor/couch and not playing around!

Chris-

You forgot it wasn't the child's fault, either. It was Apple's fault! Remember the case was "defective"?

That's the part that keeps gnawing at me.

The main reason my iPad 2 suffered this damage was the defective design of the smart cover, not my son.

Nonesense. The cover is designed to be removable. And, yes, it is stupid to let a 6-year old play with something they could easily break and that is expensive to repair or replace without close parental supervision. Get an Otterbox case if you feel the need to continue to do that. And, if you expressed the sort of condescending attitude that you showed in your post to the staff at the Apple Store, I'm not surprised that they didn't bend over backwards to accomodate your demands.

There are tons of Apple Apps that Apple market toward kids, so why are you saying that its stupid to let them play with an Ipad?

Plus I think its Apple's fault for introducing IPad 2 without an upgrade of the glass screen to something the level of bullet proof glass since the screen cracks so frequently in IPad users. I mean for something so expensive like IPad (mine was 64gb with wifi and 3g) and for it to break in one fall is pretty stupid for its price. I call that subpar design when it happens over and over with plenty of IPad users. The only VALID change to the IPad 2 was the frontal camera, the other spec changes only made IPad faster, but the current Apps for IPad haven't even reach the limits of IPad 1 processor, so all the other "upgrades" are totally unnessesary changes. The only reason why IPad 2 was released so soon was from pressure of other alternative products that were capturing Apple's market share in Tablet products!

here never was such a policy ("official" or "unofficial").

Anyone who thinks that, if they unfortunately break their iPad, that they are going to get a replacement is hopelessly naive. Similarly, anyone who totally believes unverified, anonymous posts on the internet is equally naive.

If there has never been a policy then why are they saying it has changed???

unverified and anonymous? i can find you a Apple verified post on this exact forum of someone that got their IPad 2 exchanged via the one time courtesy policy.

is that verified enough for you? I have real life friends that got their IPad 2 exchanged for free, I don't see how Apple treat customers differently.

My 5-year old granddaughter routinely plays with my iPad but always under supervision. You do know what that is, don't you? In addition, I fully expect that, should something unpleasant happen to the iPad, I will accept responsibility. You know what that is, too, don't you?

Could you afford the price if they did that? Right now, your unsupervised child can drop and destroy ten iPads for what you'd pay for one of those. Oh, I guess that Apple should sell these bullet-proof devices to you at a loss.

No, it's not verified enought for me. I have real-life friends that on occasion, when stopped for speeding, were not given a ticket. Does that mean that it's a "policy" and that nobody should ever get a traffic ticket?

I had a couple of links open, and copied the wrong one.

Lol then what else do you consider evidence? Do I have to find this person down in real life and bring him/her to an Apple store proving that this one time policy has happen before? BTW even Apple representative admitted there was a one time courtesy policy that has happened before but has now stopped. The only reason why I am frustrated is because I am treated differently than other customers, it's not even about the IPad because I got a warranty from SquareTrade that replaces my IPad for just 99$, and protects me for 2 years.

First of all I didn't say anywhere in my post that involved a children breaking my Ipad. That was just to the nature of how IPads are poorly designed versus marketing to children use.

Secondly bullet proof glass does not cost that much more to make IPad unaffordable, and i've only stated something to the level of bullet proof glass, meaniing something sturdier. For Apple to upgrade IPad to IPad 2 and making the product slimmer, costing Apple less material to make, and more expensive, but no upgrades to make it sturdier than the previous version is stupid to me.

Lastly that is an example of unequal treatment, why should some customers get an exchange while others don't? This was admitted to me by Apple representitives in person, so don't use speeding tickets as an example because you are just stereotyping events. After all we buy Apple products for its service and quality, which in the IPad example is lacking both.
