Image Capture not recognizing iPhone

Am using 10.6.8. iPhoto IS recognising it, but I prefer ImageCapture, and also I need to download some videos. (iPhoto reduces these to a single image.) So if anyone can help me, I'd be very grateful.

I still have this issue too. Image capture is set to open in iphoto and in image capture. When I connect my iphone Image Capture opens every time. But, it does not display my iphone the first time I connect it. If I unplug my iphone and re-connect it image capture then recognizes it, every second time.

Any ideas? Before updating to Yosemite I never had this issue.

I really wish some of these suggestions worked for me....Even with Preview open, and then opening Image Capture and connecting my iphone 6....it still does not recognize it, nor my scanner. I didn't have any problem before upgrading to Yosemite....I updated to 10.10.2 thinking that would help, NOT.

...and now Preview doesn't recognize my scanner either.

Oh woe is me...

Same here...ever since I updated to Yosemite, the iPhone and my Canon printer / scanner aren't recognized.
I updated to 10.10.2 recently, and at least I can print again from my MacBook.

However, I **cannot** load save photos from the iPhone with Image Capture...this is extremely annoying.

Do I really need to buy 3rd party photo management software?

I've been dealing with this forever too and was super frustrated until I just figured this out 2 minutes ago. Here's what you do..

1.) Connect your phone to the computer. (It may or may not recognize it or tell you to unlock it. Don't worry about that)

2.) Turn on itunes. At that moment the computer will prompt your phone to ask you whether you can "trust" this computer or not. Say YES!!! (Even if it's not your primary computer). Once itunes recognizes your phone, it is technically unlocked by your computer and image capture should see it.

3.) Turn on image capture then and you should be able to see your images and videos pop up for import.

I think the reason a lot of people say to just reboot to see if it works is because itunes comes on automatically for some computers and it recognizes it then. But itunes is the "gatekeeper" for other softwares to recognize the media in your phone for some reason, so always connect it to itunes before turning on any other software.

Hope this helps!!

Sum,

You clearly put some time into typing this up. But I think you're missing the point. In my case for instance I can plug my iphone into my macbook and image capture opens automatically, just like I've set it to do. But Image Capture does not show my iphone. It just opens and displays no devices. If I then manually close Image Capture and re-open it, I see my iphone under devices. The point is that image capture should A) open automatically if you set it to do so, and B) recognize any connected devices. This is especially true if it DOES open when you connect your iphone as mine does. You should not have to open Preview or itunes each time before you open Image Capture.

It's just one more glitch that I've become used to in the last year of entering the iphone world. Apple really stops caring once you've bought the product.

Thanks for the help and advice - spent the past days here trying to get rid of photos on my iPhone 6 and boy, do Apple make a real mess of handling devices what with the move from iPhoto to Fotos etc. A long way away from simplicity and user friendly which is what Apple are supposed to symbolize. Anyhow, I had to:

1. Deactivate all cloud supporting preferences and make generate an empty directory for synchronisation

2. Still with approx. 5000 photos actually on iPhone device, I had to start iPhotos, set-up preferences to open when iPhone is connected

3. Then ensured the 5000 photos were actually in the Foto library (so not deleting non-stored photos)

4. Using Image Capture (stupidly named Digitale Bilder in German - why who knows!!!), select all using cmd-A and then pressing delete (also not easy to guess with the circle with cut -through) - this did the job

5. Reenable iCloud for future storage.

Starting to hate Apple after being a fan for nearly 15 years!!!! Please simplify Dear Apple developers for the future.

Cheers!
