Tenfourfox

We are still running Tiger on our MBP and we plan to continue to do so indefinitely.

We are also currently using Firefox 3.6.22. We know that Ff will eventually stop doing security updates for 3.6. and we'll have to go elsewhere for an excellent browser.

BDAqua has kindly tested Tenfourfox for me and said it works OK on an Intel Mac.

I read the FAQ on TFF's site ( the one at macupdate, since Floodgate, the real site? seems to be dead) which seem to indicate that it might work on an Intel Mac, but that it is not supported.

Is TFF providing security updates? since it's site, Floodgate is gone?

So -

- has anyone else used TFF on an Intel running Tiger successfully?

- and can I install it alongside Ff 3.6.22 or is that asking for trouble? (again, the FAQ's seem to warn against this but I'm not sure how it'll do on an Intel Mac) Is there a way to keep Ff 3.6 installed until I figure out if TFF works for me - is a SuperDuper backup with Ff3.6.22 enough or should I dup my Ff before installing TFF?

-which of the several versions of TFF should I download for my Intel MBP - the G3, G4, G5 - 6.0.1? or what??

Thanks to BDA for testing it for me - I just need more info before I proceed.

did you check the song link I provided for you?

I did, but too deaf to hear any of it.

but it checks compatibility of add-ons each time it opens. I think that's because the HD has another Ff version on in -

Try this... Firefox>Preferences>Advanced>Updates... Automatically check for updates check boxes. 🙂

Deaf - you jest, right? or not? 😟

At least you were able to look at the lovely animations. (I have trouble recognizing humour sometimes...)

The external isn't conveniently open now and I'm currently on Ff 3.6.23, but I have it checked here as Automatically check for updates for all 3 - Ff, addons and search engines. I think it reads the same in v7. In any case, it's not that it's checking for updates, it's checking compatibility of addons.

I found the following about same but on earlier version - I haven't perused it well enough to figure out the solution here and hope it's easier than that:

Not jesting, not totally deaf, just very close to it.

Ah yes, good find, I think you've solved that one yourself.

Sorry to hear that...well, at least the pix is cute.

Solution? I found it on my own! 🙂

Do you think - am I reading this link correctly? - once I download Ff 7 to the iMac and am not accessing the pref file for another version since the other version will be gone, it'll not check for compatibility further? I hope so. (I do plan to keep a copy of 3.6x but in a separate folder not the app folder, perhaps in docs, so it'll be hidden from v7 🙂. but just there if v7 proves iffy)

Yes, as long as that setting gets updated, or you change it now to the version you use.

I thought the last 2 sounded good, BUT the path that's shown (C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\yourprofilename directory you will find a file called "user.js") looks like a Windoze path to me - in any case, I couldn't find many of the folders mentioned - nor the end point doc, user.js. Maybe its there, but I know not where.

Hoping when I update the 3.6x and hide its dup copy out of the app folder that it'll resolve itself. Otherwise, I'll start whining again.😢

Yes, it's a Windows® path, but likely nearly the same on a Mac.

I'd get EasyFind...

Here's a direct download link to EasyFind 4.0 which runs in 10.3.9 & up...

Use it to search your whole drive for case insensitive & show invisibles...

users.js

or Find Any File...

Fighting Lion & Windows 8 at the moment, which don't have tha file!?

PS. If I were gratuitous and rated Lion one on a scale of 1-12, I'd have to rate Windows 8 a 0.0125 on the same scale! 😝

FYI, and FYI for anyone else who is reading this boring conversation we have had, once I installed Ff7.0.1 on the iMac and put 3.6.23 in a separate folder to isolate it just in case I wanted to revert, the annoying checking compatibility of add-ons stopped.

All is well.

Now if I could just figure out how to posit the NoScript icons, which used to appear in the lower right corner and which now appear only in the toolbar, back somewhere easy to see separate from the toolbar stuff I'd feel more secure.
