Update 10.01 is not able to edit projects from 10.0, and won't let me create a new project or event?

Hello,

I update to 10.01 yesterday evening. Today, I shot some footage and wanted to transfer it to my 2011 iMac. I've worked with several other projects in version 10.0, so you can imagine my surprise and panic when FCPX came up blank. No projects, no events, nothing. I soon realized that my project and event files were still on my Macintosh HD, under final cut pro events and projects, but the application itself wouldn't recognize them. Furthermore, I found out, whenever trying to create a new project or event, everything would work fine, until I closed the application, or logged out, when all my progress would be erased and I would start back at 'create a new project' and 'add a new event'.

I have an important school project coming up soon, and I don't have the original video files anymore. The events and projects on Final Cut X are the only video files I have and need for this school project, so switching to a different editing program is not an option.

Whenever I tried to drag projects and events from Macintosh HD to Final Cut X, it would come up with an error message, saying basically Final Cut can't play this project, etc.

Could you try moving your "Final Cut Events" and "Final Cut Projects" folders to the root of your hardrive.

Do that when FCPX is closed, then start it again and see what happens.

In a dual disk scenario it helped me to get back my events and projects. I understand you're not in the exact same scenario but it is easy to test and maybe worth it :-)

I solved this same issue today.

My user is ldap based & the home diectory is shared via AFP but, I log on to the server machine directly so all my media is local. This worked fine under 10.0 but stopped working in 10.0.1. Probably a bug/feature related to the new "San based media location" feature.

The solution for me:

I found that I had to move my "Final Cut Events & "Final Cut Projects" folders to the root of a partition which wasn't being shared via AFP (might work with a AFP share though).

Final Cut then converted the projects and events in to 10.0.1 format & my problems vanished.

I'm not happy about having to change the location of my data and having to make a new partition by shrinking an existing partition and then making a new one from the freed up space...but at least I'm up and working again.

Os X 10.7.1 Server

Final Cut Pro 10.0.1

Apple Hardware Raid disk system.

User is ldap/network based

Home directory location is network based and shared via AFP.
