Anyone experiencing ear / head pain using iphone?

I am increasingly experiencing ear / head pain which is unmistakably linked to using the iphone. It is reduced using a bluetooth device but I even think that I am becoming more sensitive to being in the close vicinity of the iphone.

Have not yet been to the doctor but am about to kick this process off.

Am concerned about:

  • any damage done so far to ear / head / brain
  • how to get this checked out properly
  • what the future prospects are - if I were to continue to use iphone / or if stopping using iphone
  • what is the situation for everyone else - mobiles and iphones are becoming ubiquitous - but at what cost to our health?

Have any of you experienced the same / similar?

What have the responses been from the medical profession?

Have Apple done any research / reports on this? Is there a summary of cases?

Any experiences / data / advice welcome. Thank you.

some people are sensitive to electronic emmisions. if I were you, i would stop using the phone. If you can find a phone that doesnt bother you, you should switch, but its likely any phone will irritate you unless its a traditional wired phone with no radios inside.

im curious, if you put it in airplane mode and hold it up to your ear does it still bother you?

As I see the thread seeming to branch into a lot of different kinds of ear/head complaints, stvhemi may be on to something. It may be complex.

For me, I believe I've traced the issue, and found a solution:

Most on the thread seem to be complaining, like me, that they feel an issue with their device against their ear, but not with headphones or other input methods. The iPhone 5 (and up) have 3 microphones. One of these is on the front of the device, with the speaker where you place your ear. Together with the other two mics, it listens for ambient noise to cancel it out and present you, and the person you're speaking with, with a clearer call.

The problem for me arises in placing my ear too tightly against my ear, creating a seal with both a speaker trying to play sound and mic picking it up.

For me, placing the phone more gently against my head breaks that seal, and stops/prevents the ear pain.

Give it a shot let me know if it works for you. I'd also be interested in hearing what any of you think of my 3rd mic theory.

I Just bought new iPhone 6s. During call I can feel heavy air pressure on both ear. To avoids this I have to remove phone from my ear. I think it's iPhone radiatio. its really scary experienc. I complain about it to iPhone and waiting for their reply. Same time if I use my Sony mobile it's fine

Noise Cancellation can cause this. Try:

Settings > General > Accessibility > Phone Noise Cancellation > OFF

This is my very first iPhone version 6s Plus. I haven't once used it against my ear, only on speaker phone. If I keep it less than six inches from my face, I feel this intense pressure, almost burning sensation. I asked a friend about this. This is what he came up with. I'm pretty worried and unimpressed that Apple wants to charge such a high price without caring about their customer's well being. The sources do check out at the bottom of the page

It's quite possibly the noise cancellation. Try this:

Settings > General > Accessibility > Phone Noise Cancellation > OFF

I've read all the comments here already. So your response to my issue is kind of redundant. My major is in radio and sound. That is not the problem. If you want to give me a different reason then post away.

All cell phones are radios. None of them emit ionizing radiation, however,

If you try being polite, you may get more help here.

You will need to find problems by process of elimination. It can be a very expensive process. Try an older iPhone, try a different brand/model. Use a sealed RF enclosure (a microwave is pretty good at that). Visual cues can also cause similar sensations. Environmental factors are another consideration. Scientific inquiry is a very Sherlockian approach to find issues.

If you think this is specific to iPhone6s related, and you are within the return window, you can return it or sell it.

And you telling me what I've already read is nice? It's actually kind of insulting and a waste of my time. I don't need you to tell me what I've already read in the same thread. Thanks but no thanks. Please refrain from wasting more of my time with your "life lessons".

I think you don't understand. This is an all volunteer user-to-user forum. People are trying to help you. If you don't find the answers, useful, just ignore them. And yes, lots of people tack onto the end of a dormant thread without reading the whole thread. And, given that you had such a completely crazy notion of what could possibly be the cause of your headache, I could only assume you hadn't read the rest of the thread.

If you have severe headaches, you should be seeing a doctor, not consulting a technical support forum.

bluetooth, wifi, cellular transmittings are at a a lot! lower watt and less broadcasted everywhere compared to broadcast antenna tv and radio signals that we have been constantly exposed to everywhere we go for about 100 years in terms of radio

and if you live under power lines and hold up a neon tube in one end it will light up like a light saber

Satyan13,

could you please post the exact model of your Sony phone?

the problem that people discover in this thread is very real.
I am one of the unfortunate ones in whose case it started just like others describe and then escalated to horrible health problems. Kept me out of work for over a year. Now am getting better, was using my old 2G Blackberry but the carriers stop supporting 2G phones. So I am searching for phone(s) that other people, who are sensitive to iPhones, are ok using.

To all you skeptics, yes, not everyone is sensitive but for those who are - be warned: if you keep pushing it and using the devices that cause you pain, you are on a very slippery slope of a very deep canyon.

Anyone who is sensitive but is able to use other models, please post what phones you are using.

Thank you
