Thunderbolt won't wake from sleep on Mac Mini Server w/Lion 10.7.1

I have done the firmware updates, thought the probelm was fixed, but again, the display was asleep (as far as I could tell) and would not wake up.......unplugging and replugging the TB cable made it come right back.

Hi Tony,

Point taken re: mouse. The thing with this keyboard bug is that unplugging/plugging the keyboard doesn't help (in my experience).

I wasn't able to reproduce the blank screen issue last night so couldn't verify if 'killall Dock' allows the keyboard to wake the display. So, I'll have to wait until that happens again. But, I agree, this keyboard issue is most likely not related. It would be good to verify though if one of us hits the blank screen issue again.

Allen

Well, I looked on the web and it said I was not eligible to return this monitor, so I ended up calling them. They did process the return for me. I think I will sit out Thunderbolt for a while since this is kind of a big problem. : ) I just am not going to keep going through removing the power plug and plugging it back in. Probably pick up a basic monitor at Best Buy today that won't do this.

Update - still not fixed, but I am working with Apple Support. SInce I have a mini server, they sent me over to the "enterprise" unit. They asked me to hook up my old cinema display and the thunderbolt at the same time (Cinema hooked in through the HDMI to DVI adapter). After sleeping about 3 hours, tried to wake the mini. The cinema woke up the thunderbolt stayed black.

I had left the display system prefs open before sleeping, and the controls on each display. I hit the "gather windows" button on the cinema display prefs, which brought over the Thunderbolt display prefs. Even if I changed resolutions or brightness on the thunderbolt system prefs (being viewed on the cinema display) it would not wake up.

Then I unplugged and re-plugged in the thunderbolt cable on the back on the mini, and it woke up and came back to life.

Next I will check running the cinema alone (no thunderbolt) on the mini-display port to DVI adapter......that should pretty much seal the deal that it's the thunderbolt display that's the problem if the cinema works fine on that port.

Sorry to hear you guys are still experiencing this.

I've not been able to reproduce this since my last post (lucky me) despite hours of display sleep. With the Promise RAID, leaving Thunderbolt entirely just isn't an option for me. Maybe niavely, I'm hoping that the Oct 12 update to Lion (to support iCloud+IOS5) will include a fix. Yeah, misplaced optimism, I know...

I have through support a work around to this issue that seems to work for me until this gets resolved in a software upgrade. They know that there is an issue with the Thunderbolt display with it waking up when the AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST BRIGHTNESS is checked. I have unchecked this in my display settings and I no longer have the issue. I hope this helps everyone - I was very frustrated by this and hope they fix it soon but Id rather live with adjusting the brightness myself than unplugging all the time. I already has to send one Thunderbolt back because it quit working.

And yet another with the same configuration, my mac mini having dual drives (256 SSD + 750 SATA)

Server sits at home office and accessed by several offices. Worked from directly in the evenings which is when it wont wake.

No regular time factor, sometimes unresponsive after 15 min, sometimes days.

Thanks Goober for your last post, will test this tonight and report back.

Well so much for the new upgrade. Within a few minutes the screen went to sleep and opnce again wouldnt wake up. I rebooted in the hope that it just needed to reconfigure settings, but alas no, the first sleep fail took 2 days but then began to occur after an hr or so, so Apple have not fixed this. I have reverted to the auto adjust off option. CUMMON APPLE, sort your **** out. Then tell us!
