Apple TV 2 will not play purchased videos from an authorized computer

I have been trying all night to get purchased videos from an authorized computer play on my Apple TV 2. My computer is authorized and I have not reached my limit of authorized computers. I even went as far as to completly reset all the settings on my Apple TV; the music plays fine and it can list all my availible video content but as soon as I select a video of any kind it gives me the following error: Authorization is Required. You must authorize your computer with the account used to purchased the content. I am going crazy, I can access the same videos from my Home Sharing on my iPhone or from another computer using iTunes. I have tried deauthorizing the computer several times with no luck. Any suggestions?

Having exact same problem. Apple tv quit in the middle of the new episode of the office stating authorization required. All my apple tvs affected the same way. Tried restoring the app tv deauthorization reauthorization, nothing. Library shows up fine and music plays but no chance of movie or tv show playing. Come on apple get it together so frustrating.

So glad to read this support forum this morning. I tried all the resetting and reauthorizing crap last night and this morning too. Nothing works, it's definately an Apple problem, whew. Playing movies and TV through airplay is the best option for now. I read online that some people received an email yesterday, I believe, saying that iCloud was available for them to use. That could be the root of the problem. Apple read these comments and do something.

I live in The Netherlands and we just got the possiblity to buy/rent movies from iTunes (after waiting several years). Now I downloaded two films but I am not able to play it on my TV because of this authorisation error. I also cannot play it through Airplay though. The only way is to view the movie on my computer.

This is not what I want. This makes me stop buying films and buy Blueray discs instead. Bad start Apple. I hope this iCloud stuff will not show the same outages as MobileMe and now this authorisation problem......

Hmmm, hard to believe NO ONE from Apple would be checking these forums. Anyway, last night I actually called support about this issue, and talked to two different reps (without agreeing to pay for support) and they advised me to try the same things most of the people here had already tried. I'm sure it's an early implementation/roll out of iCloud in preparation for next weeks IOS 5 announcement. The airplay method works for purchased media, odd that I have no problem playing back music I've purchased through iTunes, the problem only arises with TV shows and movies.

Just talked to Apple Service... after going through the motions of resets and checks, I was on hold while he checked things and when he came back... he said yes indeed one of thier servers that does the authorization is down and they do not know when it will be up again. So everyone stop resetting... its Apple Server Side issue without an ETA for repair. Good luck everyone with the iCloud... cuse its going to be stormy. AirPlay best bet for workaround.

Sorry to Say that I too have this issue. Last week my TV shows worked fine...now I apparently need to authorize my already authorized computer. I think its Apple TV Gen 2 Specific...because I can view the TV Show on my Daughter's iPad using Home Sharing and its doesn't have a problem. I can also drive the TV direct from the Media Server Mac via HDMI using iTunes full screen...works fine. Its just the Apple TV......

PS. I also tried a full iTunes restore of the Apple TV.....no joy.....looks like a wider issue. Perhaps iOS 5 rollout next week for iPhone 5 will result in a new AppleTV update......sigh.....:(
