Apple TV 2 will not play purchased videos from an authorized computer

I have been trying all night to get purchased videos from an authorized computer play on my Apple TV 2. My computer is authorized and I have not reached my limit of authorized computers. I even went as far as to completly reset all the settings on my Apple TV; the music plays fine and it can list all my availible video content but as soon as I select a video of any kind it gives me the following error: Authorization is Required. You must authorize your computer with the account used to purchased the content. I am going crazy, I can access the same videos from my Home Sharing on my iPhone or from another computer using iTunes. I have tried deauthorizing the computer several times with no luck. Any suggestions?

Hello,

I just got off the phone with apple support. They sated they are going through a upgrade on there authroization servers and that is why we are seeing this issue. I cant say this is eveyones issue but I would assume most people will start working again once they are done. Well I hope that is. No ETA was avaiable when they will be completed.

Thanks Hope this help

I also spoke with Apple today (Saturday, October 1). They said there was a server issue that created the problem with streaming purchased content to my Apple TV. I asked when it might be resolved and they did not have a clear answer. I feel this may be in response to the roll out of the new iOS etc., next week.

Apple knows which of their accounts have an AppleTV registered. Wouldn't it be COMMON COURTESY to e-mail the presumably MANY THOUSANDS of affected people and let them know that they don't have to spend valuable hours fiddling with their temperamental gadgets in order to troubleshoot a problem the customers have no way of fixing? I enjoy the convenience of the AppleTV when it's working, but it starts making me regret investing in Apple DRMed media when I can't reliably watch it on the TV and they don't even bother telling people about KNOWN PROBLEMS and let it trickle out to their customers in forums. Poor show chaps.

I am having the same problem. Contacted support by email and support link but still no answer. I can view content on one Apple TV 2 but authorization required on the other 4 Apple TVs. Weird. I tried all the steps on support website and the ones listed here but nothing worked. I think as mentioned here this must be a problem on the Apple servers; on their side not on ours.

OMG! I've felt like an idiot! I just came across this forum and seen that this is happening to everyone. Not that this makes me happy, but I do feel happier knowing it's not only me.

Apple, please step this game up and get on it!

BTW: Just updated and nothing has changed. I have restored, reset, etc.. Still will not authorize with my purchased movies.

Day two.

The problem persists.

Two things bother me regarding this issue.

First, Apple did not send out a courtesy e-mail to its Apple TV users to inform them about the issue with their authorization server and the steps they are taking to resolve the matter. Like yourself, I am thinking it's an issue on my end.

Second, I'm concerned that the content I purchased and have downloaded to my computer is not available to me because of an issue for which I have no control. It has become painfully obvious that I do not really own this content afterall.

"Same problem here" - that phrase is becoming far too common. This has to be a technical issue at Apple's end. I couldn't even log onto support pages earlier to see if there was a solution. I reckon once that darn iPhone 5 gets released this will clear up. What i do find increibly frustrating is that there are hundreds of us "ever so dedicated Apple customers" who sit here and discuss these issues at length ,but, when was the last time that someone from technical support came along and gave an answer to the probem? I totally understand that there are problems from time to time with this amazing technology ,but come on, why keep so quiet about it? Tell us what's happeneing and then we can all spend our time doing something more worthwhile than trying to find answers on Support Discussions - this "Digital Lifestyle" gets me down sometimes.

On another note (not that i'm one to whinge) but i am NEVER renting another movie from iTunes again. For the third time on the trot now i have rented a film (for £4.99 - pretty steep price) and began watching the film only for it to stop half way thorugh because it hasn't downloaded fully before playing!!!! If the film won't play in full due to download issues then at least have thedecency to tell us first. Right, i'm off to watch Strictly Come Dancing on catch up tv because i know that will at least do what i want it to - watch TV.

I stil totally love Apple products however - although that said, i did just flog my iPhone 3GS for a Samsung Gaaxy S 2. Best sale i have ever made - not sure how the iPhone 5 is going to top that smart phone.

Andrew.
