Will the iPhone 4 support the new Siri integration?

I am aware of the minor new features in the new iPhone 4S, but am wondering if Siri will be in the iPhone 4 when ios 5 comes out next Wednesday.

iPhone 4, iOS 4.2.7, 16GB CDMA Black

That is not Siri, the iPhone 4S version for a start does not have a blue screen, you can not only talk to it, and it has a joke it can tell, but you can use your voice to type in apps or on the net as well. The Siri app was due to be shutdown after a while as the 4S is out. What the 4S did need was more ram! 😠 I have seen low memory warnings using Siri.

As with all other apps, Siri will work better on a faster phone.

iOS5 Siri is Beta.

Apple has built a whole new data center, that appears to be for Siri.

Maybe, and call me crazy here, Apple wants to "test" the Beta software with just a small number of users.

And users who will get the best experience.

And the easiest way to do that is by only allowing it on the new phone at first.

Throw in some free advertsising for their new model phone and it's great management IMHO.

Who knows, once it has stablized we might all get it.

I think throwing your toys out of the cot and crying that you "lost" something, or that you "deserve" new features is silly.

My iPhone 4 can play lots of games... why do I have to buy them in the app store?

Why are they are not free?

Everytime Microsoft, or Apple update the OS on computers we pay for updates!

Be glad you got lots of cool new features with iOS 5, and just chill out.

If you paid for the Siri App, then you should ask for your money back if it stops working.

I'm not agree with you at all. I'm a developer too, and I think this science evolves a lot everyday. So you take a lot of decisions on the way. Usually every project has a planification and a deadline, but during that process the things can change.

Probably when you bought Siri App, that was great. And probably was great for you while you were using it. That's the reason justifies you pay for it. Some time later you discover Apple bought that company or Application, and now after a lot of modifications and a new development that application is built-in the Operation System. It has been a lot of work to integrate the same behaviour in the Operating System, so there was a job of development again.

Take in care, any software company or developer survive selling their software or products.

I think in this case, only a nice piece of software like iOS integrated Siri, is trying to justify the iPhone 4S purchase.

Apple's position in the market needs to show something new from time to time. If you don't do that, then you're sending a message to the market, probably something wrong is happening. When you are also in the stock market, all of those things are really important.

So this stupid steps, to release more or less similar devices, like happened with iPad 2 for example, until you get a new revolutionary gadget are necessary while you're still developing or investigating new things.

Because of that I'm sure the integration of siri will be possible in older devices.

Cheers.

Unfortunately, you can say this as often as you want, and others have said it repeatedly also, but people who don't want to believe it won't no matter what anyone says. The fact that the word "beta" is on Apple's web site gives lots of people false hope. The fact that the User Manual says in many places that "Siri is avaiable on the 4S only" doesn't influence those who BELIEVE. I don't know what part of NO they don't understand.

Some developers still working right now on port Siri to iPhone 4... it looks great but, i hope that it will be available soon for all of us, with native speed and great stability. I cant wait for talk with Siri through my iPhone 4

Whatever, After Steve Jobs death and this "stupid exclusivity for iPhone 4S" i believe in hackers and other Deveopers than the Apple Stuff... pitifully

Siri does not need more processing power, if you haven't noticed, its something People call Marketing from Apple

Apple will tell you that so they can save their "KILLER FEATURE" of the iPhone 4S, and for all that Stupid people out there that Actually believe everything Apple Says.

Techincally, the A4 Processor in the iPhone 4 is Beefy enough to run Siri Smoothly, dev-team (jailbreakers) have already ported Siri to a iPhone 4 and a iPod Touch 4G.

Also, if you want to know, the only advantage on the iPhone 4S over the iPhone 4 is better Graphic PRocessing Power, not "Faster PRocessing" as many Apple says, because the A4 is has 1ghz Processing Power " Can run as much apps as the iPhone 4S, maybe a with a slight lag but it is Powerful enough, and with the A5 Chip (iPhone 4S) that is clocked beetween 800 and 950 mhz and 2 cores, has better graphic processing ( Movies look more smooth, so do games, etc.) and the 8 megapixel camera, and if you are worried for Megapixels there is apps like Clearcam the AppStore that enhace the photos to make them have twice the megapixels as with the Default Camera App.

So if you really want to know the real reason, Siri can be ported to A4 devices with no technical problems, the real reason is Apple's Marketing which want everyone with a iPhone 4S, so iPhone 4 users do not upgrade!

WAIT FOR THE IPHONE 5, or just ******* it go get a Samsung Galaxy S II or wait for the Motorola RAZR or a Galaxy NExus with Android 4.0, just as Siri, not as Fancy .

Hope This Helps!!

Siri, looks and sounds amazing yes i understand that apple need a killer feature for th enew phone, but surely the fact it has a new A5 and much better camera along with other things should be a good selling point. i mean look at the 3g/3gs the 3gs wasnt that much better than the 3g but sold well. it was of course faster and this was more than enough to sell it. the next ios will come out and will work on the the newer devices including the iphone4 but of course will work faster on the 4s+ devices its just the way it goes.

i would really like the chance to use siri and hope hope let us have it on iphone4.

yes we could all get a 4s but its not simple pocket money and of course we dont know when the iphone5 is coming out if i was garaunteed it was 12 months time + i wouldnt mind spening on the 4s but what if its just 6 months away 😟

I recently upgraded to the 4S just because of Siri. Trust me, it not worth using the updgrade so I might return my 4S before the 30 days is up and keep my upgrade intact for the iPhpne 5 next year. Most of the times, Siri does not work as advertised. Keep in mind that Siri's still in the beta stage and that the full version will not be released until next Spring. Therefore, just let the poeple that were duped into the 4S be the beta testers for the next six months until all the bugs are worked out for the finall release. In the meantime, you are not missing much by not having Siri.

Oct 26, 2011 7:59 AM in response to Dogcow-Moof

that is so not true!

before the new iphone, there was an app called siri and apple probebly bought it. it was EXACTLY the same thing (understands your meaning and everything else). and it worked perfectly on iphone 4! beside, the only way you could see the difference between iphone 4 and 4s chips is that you put the devices next to each other and do the same thing at both of them at the same time. the iphone 4 is smooth enough

I had the same experience. I was using Siri on my iPhone 4 for the past few months (it was available from iTunes as a free application)and was very pleased and impressed with its capabilities. On or around Oct 13 it stopped working. It starts to initialize then displays this message "It appears that I have no network connection...or maybe it's just slow." The application seems to be fine from the iPhone side of things but it looks like it's blocked from the network/host side. I've not been able to find any announcements or related information about it being disabled for existing iPhone 4 users.

You hit the nail right on the head with this my friend.

They killed 2 birds with one stone on this one:

1. People forget that it is a Beta, and just like iOS betas, Siri will take time to be tested and fixed. Apple doesn't want to throw this feature on the millions of iPhone users out there, simply because it would overflow the servers and it would not work properly. This is the time where all the kinks and bugs are worked out.

2. It's a great excuse for a marketing plan for a new product launch. "This feature is only available on the iPhone 4S" even though we all have seen (jackoplane's port) that the iPhone 4's interior hardware is perfectly capable of handling an integrated app such as Siri.

Great post Kiwiphone4. All everyone has to do now is be patient. It will come to other iDevices soon enough. Maybe around Christmas time? Maybe; that might push sales for the iPhone 4's that are still in inventory. Only time will tell!

the conversation on this page is intresting to say the least... but here is my 2 cents

1)since its release from 2009 the iphone 3gs n iphone 4 hit somewhere around 100 (worldwide) millions of iphones sold. thats only counting end of 2010.

2)if you only count iphone 3gs and iphone 4 there is probably about 8 to 10 million iphones in the u.s. alone.

3)from what i gather developers are gonna be able to use siri in their apps or have siri support.

4)iphone 4s has sold like 3 to 5 million so far.

5) so thats about 2/3 to 1/5 (this percentage is only counting phones so if you count the ipod touch and ipad it could go up to 80%) of people that don't have siri on their iphone 4

i've had great respect for the ppl at apple and i still do but i would really be puzzled by their thinking if they leave out up to 66% (possible 80% even) of ppl out of the loop if they don't bring siri out to the rest of the i-devices -- l the ipod touch 4g, ipad, and the iphone 4

6)if they release the siri with the release of ios 5 and it supported all i-devices (about 200 plus millions) they probalby had server meltdown greater than that of a volcano eruption.

7)IT IS A BETA. so if they release it for all idevices and it crashes i would rather take care of the few millions iphone 4s than the 200 million devices. that alone would make them the smartest cookies in my book

8)apple will allow developers to have siri support for their apps but only limited to 5% of their total user base - the iphone 4s? VERY VERY VERY UNLIKELY

well to keep myself from making a long story even longer i think its a safe bet that siri will be ported over to other devices. there are way way wayyyyyyy too many ideviced out there for apple to ignore

and if they do ignore the rest of the ppl the jailbreak community will be there.. and i'm pretty sure its just a matter of time before siri hits the jailbroken scene

WELL SLAP ME TWICE AND CALL ME A COW......i just came across a page while doing a google search for "siri on iphone 4" They actually show an iphone 4 running siri. not the siri that was in the app store but the ios 5 siri. granted it could be fake since you can't tell if its the new iphone 4s or just the iphone 4. Except for the point in the video towards the end when the guy lifts up the phone to show the side view and it only has one black antenna line on the bottom (since the 4s has two of those lines - one on bottom and other on top)

take the video for what its worth but know that if apple don't bring it out to the rest of their users then the jailbreak community sure will...

Will the iPhone 4 support the new Siri integration?
