Siri on iPhone 4??

Will Siri also be available for iPhone 4? I heard that, Siri will only be available for the 4S. 😟

I submit to you that removing a feature like Siri on the iPhone4 would be like taking your car to the dealer for a recall and they remove your ability to get FM radio stations.

I'm sorry but this analogy doesn't add up.

The old Siri App was not as good as the Siri that is in the iPhone 4s.

And Siri was not built in to the iPhone 4 when you bought it.

No one promised unlimited updates, and that you would get new features every year,

So it's more like if you bought a car in 2010 that has a 2 litre engine, and the 2011 model has a 2.5 litre engine.

Now you rush back to the dealer and whine and complain that they should remove the 2 litre engine and replace it for the new one free!

The car is only a year old, so you deserve it.

No one bought the Siri app, it was free.

The company that made it didn't promise it would work forever.

Apple bought that company and spent lots of money improving and building it to be better.

They built a massive data center just for Siri.

IMHO they deserve to get paid for their work.

They are not a charity that will give you free stuff forever just because you once bought their phone.

I have an iPhone 4, and I would love to have Siri on it.

But I don't think whining and saying that we deserve it just because the iPhone4 is capable of running on our phones is silly.

There is also the data center that needs to back up Siri; all the speach to text is done off the phone.

So I imagine that Apple will need to have a much larger data center to handle all iPhones using Siri.

And yeah, that will cost them.

Has anyone looekd for alternatives?

Try downloading Dragon Dictation if you want speach to text.

And google app seems to do great searches.

In the end no one owes you anything.

Apple is a company, I'm wonder why so many users seem to think that Apple somehow loves you?

I'm not some "Apple Fan Boy", I'm a realist.

I disagree; the analogy is apt. (Practically) all cars today come with FM, so it is essentially free. The fact that Siri on the 4S is better does not excuse unsupporting the more basic app on the 4. And regarding your engine analogy, a more exact analogy would be if we were asking Apple to replace the A4 processor (in the 4) with an A5 (as in the 4S).

Siri is not free.

It involves having a data center that does the speech to text.

FM is not free either.

Radios cost.

And Radio stations use ads to make money.

I don't know the reason that Apple does not support the old Siri app.

But they have no obligation to support a free app forever.

Pressing the download button didn't give you free access forever.

This is a typical "I want something free forever because I deserve it" arguement.

Most people on this forum bought an iPhone, so we did pay once.

But at that time we paid for what it was at that time.

Anything more is a bonus.

No features have been taken away.

One app has stopped working (actually many apps disappear and stop working every week).

But our iPhones still work as they did when we bought them.

Apple didn't promise Siri app when you bought it.

Please go ahead and ask Apple to add Siri to the iPhone 4:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

If enough people ask, they might listen.

Just demanding and making silly analogies that you deserve it makes you look childish.

The analogy is nonsense. The iPhone 4 never "came with" the Siri app, free or otherwise. It wasn't even in the app store when the phone was released and EVERYONE who had it acquired it AFTER purchasing the phone. There have been many other apps in the App Store that have been withdrawn or no longer supported, and quite a few of those were not free.

The bottom line is that there are other apps in the App Store now that can do everything the old Siri app did and just as well. Vlingo is one and it is FREE.

Lose the whining and self-serving, self-entitlement attitude. Apple owes you nothing.

Both your argument and your insult lack logical rigor. Of course nothing is free to a manufacturer (and to be perfectly rigorous, neither can it be really free to consumers, even if the price may be, as you cited, listening to radio ads) - the only relevant question is does the consumer pay extra for it. Neither the Siri app which was available for the 4 nor Siri for 4S cost consumers extra, therefore they qualify as "free". And I have made no demand or assertion as to what is entitled or deserved; I have complained that Apple discontinued support for an app I liked and found useful.

And has been said, wasn't the first time and probably won't be the last.

Was well reported when they bought Siri, it is now built into the OS, they removed it from the store. You can hack it to get it and take your chances, you can send in your feedback and hope they make it available again, you can boycott Apple to show your displeasure. That about sums up your options.

Well, while it may be fun and all to bring up all kind of entertaining analogies and all, Apple does not monitor these discussions except under limited circumstances when someone might privately duck in to check on a technical problem that has an ongoing discussion and no real answer. Since we aren't even supposed to be discussing Apple policies and speculation per the Terms of Use we agreed to, but the moderators are allowing some discretion, no, Apple will not be read this. Or other threads on Siri on the iPad 2, Siri on the iPhone 4, Siri on the original iPhone, etc.

So if you just want to take some time to express yourself so other users can answer back, and you don't let your post devolve into a rant, have at it. It won't accomplish anything since the issue of Siri has been well covered in the trades and even in larger media, but if it makes you feel better keep going. Don't know what more you can add, but have at it.

While you are at it you might also include displeasure with the BCS (if you are not an SEC or non-BCS conference fan), outrage at no prosecutions of bankers, failure of the budget committee, and the Red Sox collapse. It will do just as much good as talking about Siri on the iPhone 4.

Why are you always shouting at other users? Don't you think that is a bit rude?

It is not hard for me to understand at all. I think it went like this: A company came up with an application called Siri that did limited voice recognition like Vlingo and some other apps. But apparently theirs worked better. Apple purchased the company. They reworked the app, built it into the OS so it was not sandboxed, changed the sensor on new hardware to work with it (Raise to Speak), tweaked it on the new A5 processor and released it on the new 4s as a beta (uhoh, somebody fell behind schedule). They sent emails to all who had the app and shut down the servers that were previously used and withdrew the app. Now it is only available on the 4s unless you want to use a hack.

Did I miss something?
