Cookie and Cache problem

Ok this is a little anoying, every day when I check, I find I have cookies and cahe's for websites I visit and ones I don't. Sometimes 100+. When I remove all data, over the next hour or so most of the cookies and cache's return, no matter how many times I remove them.😠

I'm sure Miertreim is right - I rather ignored topsites, never using it & having disabled the page previews a couple of years ago, which I'd mostly forgotten doing. Sorry not to have caught that earlier.

try this in Terminal with Safari quit.

defaults write com.apple.safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy 2

Existing previews will still show, but new ones won't be fetched when topsites recomputes, and hopefully you'll see just the numerous cache items + the occasional rogue 3rd party cookie that I do.

If you want it back to normal

defaults delete com.apple.safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy

It would seem that the security update (not Safari) addresses the bug regarding Safari's cookie preference control:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5002

Available for: Mac OS X v10.6.8, Mac OS X Server v10.6.8

Impact: Safari may store cookies it is not configured to accept

Description: A synchronization issue existed in CFNetwork's handling of cookie policies. Safari's cookie preferences may not be honored, allowing websites to set cookies that would be blocked were the preference enforced. This update addresses the issue through improved handling of cookie storage.
