my iphone is frozen

I was updating some apps, specifically the lastest facebook update, it was taking forever to load...then when it finally did load, it didn't work, so I decided to delete the app & just redownload it. Ok fine...its redownloading. I left, came back to check it, and it was still installing, so I decided to shut off my phone and restart it, here comes the problem,.ever since then, my phone won't turn back on. It is frozen with the apple logo on it. I have tried to hold the sleep & wake button, plug it in to itunes, everything & still nada.

WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!?!

iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.2

Same thing happened to my 3GS. Froze on me at the splash screen, doesn't load. Uninstalling and reinstalling froze the app before installation could complete. After that i tried a hard restart. Hung at logo. Tried again. Hung at logo. On the third time I left the iphone alone for I think close to ten minutes... and much to my relief, it completed the reboot.

No facebook app on my 3GS now, but at least I got my 3GS back.

Ok y'all: I don't know if it was just the waiting or what. I downloaded iExplorer and after a while of nothing I pressed refresh a few times. Then I closed and quit iTunes. My phone actually died while it was plugged in. I reopened iTunes. After a minute or so the phone came back on and is now showing up in both iTunes and iExplorer. It's even backing up as we speak. My phone was restarting every ten minutes, on the dot, for an hour and a half before it died. Hope this helps some of y'all.

Thankfully I came here last night before going totally insane. Plugging it into iTunes and letting it just sit there worked for whatever reason. I had to wait about 30 minutes but then I had that magical sound of the computer recognizing the iPhone. It then came back to life, but I wasn't done with my problem. I tried to reinstall the Facebook app and it did the same **** thing again, it locked up on "installing". So rather than wait this out, I deleted Facebook from iTunes entirely and resynced so it removed it from my phone. I then "purchased" Facebook right from iTunes on my PC and then synced again and it finally added it to my iPhone and I could use the app once I logged in again.

What a nightmare over one app.... And the ironic part is while all this was happening, Apple e-mailed me the tracking info for my iPhone 4S which just left Alaska and is due to arrive to me Friday!

Marc, your method worked for me! I backed up my 3GS on my laptop, downloaded the FB app from iTunes, then synced it to my iPhone. Thank you! The app works and is truly a beautiful experience!

In answer to a previous question, when my 3GS hanged on the logo, I did not plug it into any machine/iTunes. I kept restarting it, on the third try I left the phone for about ten mins and it finally rebooted successfully.

I spoke to an Apple iPhone Tech Representative. He said the issue is that the Facebook App is for iOS 5, which will not be released until tomorrow (via iTunes). So, that is what is causing all of the phones to freeze and lockup because they cannot process that App's data on the current OS (iOS 4.3). He told me to let mine continue to sit on the Apple Logo screen and that it will eventually come back on (still waiting). Here's hoping...
