my iphone is frozen

I was updating some apps, specifically the lastest facebook update, it was taking forever to load...then when it finally did load, it didn't work, so I decided to delete the app & just redownload it. Ok fine...its redownloading. I left, came back to check it, and it was still installing, so I decided to shut off my phone and restart it, here comes the problem,.ever since then, my phone won't turn back on. It is frozen with the apple logo on it. I have tried to hold the sleep & wake button, plug it in to itunes, everything & still nada.

WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!?!

Hi had same problem, maybe not needed to do a restore. I kept soft resetting until the phone turned off. I would soft reset about 4-5 times, with occasioanly trying just the power button and it shut off. Waited a few minutes turned the phone back on took about 4 minutes but phone is back to normal, First heard this at a mac rumors forum tonight after I tried to update facebook. Good luck should work just be patient 🙂

Like everyone else, I am having the same Facebook issues. I upgraded Facebook on my IPhone 3GS and then tried to launch the application. It seemed to hang at the Facebook splash screen. I uninstalled Facebook and then reinstalled it. The reinstallation process seemed to hang. I tried rebooting the phone to clear out the hung installation process and that is when I got stuck at the Apple boot screen. I tried multiple hard resets without luck. I tried connecting to ITunes, but my phone wasn't detected. I let my phone sit stuck at the Apple boot screen while connected to my PC with ITunes open. After about 20 minutes, ITunes suddenly detected my phone and synched. Everything seems to be running OK now minus the Facebook App.

This release of Facebook is quite a disappointment so far! How thoroughly was the app tested prior to the release??? I would much rather wait a few more days for the app to be released so more bugs could be worked out.

Same thing with my I4- I got stuck on the apple screen after a hard rest after it got stuck in FB perpetual loading...I put my phone away and came back 1/2 hour later and still the same screen - this was about 6pm this afternoon before all these good suggestions....I attached it to my computer and fired up itunes - didn't recongnize it - finally followed steps on a website to get itunes to recognize it to restore it...didn't even have the option to synch it before the restore. Did a full system restore on my phone 😠 - I lost a few apps, a few contacts, a lot of my texts but the thing that really steamed me - a BUNCH of photos...including ones I took of my daughters today at the pumpkin patch 😠😠😠

Grrrrrrrrrr - I am not touching the FB app with a ten foot pole...in fact I deleted it off for now...

I synched my husbands phone - 3GS after I went through the whole mess - during the synch it must have updated his FB app - but didn't crash his system like mine - but then again we just opened it quickly to see after I synched and then shut it back down before it could really "load"...I just wound up deleting it off for now until I hear of a fix

This is what I wound up having to do - of course this was early on before a bunch of the people above just let their phone go for 60-90 minutes - I wound up doing a full restore of my phone following these steps

  1. You need to first connect your Apple logo stuck iPhone to iTunes.
  2. And then hold the Home button and Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
  3. After 10 sections, release the Power button. Do not release Home button, keep holding the Home button another 10+ seconds. You will see a message in iTunes that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
  4. Your iPhone is in DFU mode now. Click OK and click Restore button in iTunes.

This is not an easy task. You might have to repeat this process over 3-5 times to get it right.

NOW - I hadn't synched my phone in about 2 months (kept thinking I should but just forgot) and by doing a full restore and then resynching it I lost a bunch of stuff...in the whole scheme of things small potatoes - but still...lesson learned and I will be synching up my phone a few times a month from here on out

So far, so good. Thank you so much, twinmom. You wrote it in a way that it managed to work. I think I was doing the steps out of sequence before. It seems as though my iphone is on its way to restoring. Thankfully, I synched it up just last week so I won't lose too much. (I hope.)

Thanks again for taking the time to answer!

Before you restore, try this!!!

I just managed to fix mine without restoring. I thought I was going to have to, after several attempts to sync to itunes told me that it was in recovery mode and needed to be restored. But I didnt want to lose my recent data. As a last resort, I plugged it in and opened iPhone Explorer to see if it would recognize it and maybe let me back up my files manually. It ended up fixing it just by being open! Everything is working fine now, the Facebook app is gone (won't touch it until a new update comes out and others have tested it first) and I'm backing everything up. So download iPhone Explorer and try this before restoring Hope this helps.

Well I should have read this 2 minutes ago because I just started to restore my iPhone. I'm so flipping angry right now! I guess this just means I wont be using Facebook on my phone again! I think it was a sign of 2 things...1 ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR STUFF!!! Which I do but hadn't in about a week and now everything I had on there is gone! and 2 I need to not be so worried about Facebook! It takes up Waaaaay to much time that could be spent on other things! I'm beyond upset right now!!!!!! 😢
