All that's known is at http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5
There's nothing said about the compatibility of the multitouch gestures to older devices, such as the ipad 1 is.
In iOS beta 1 the feature wasn't available. Maybe it works in the GM Version 😕
Will have to wait and see once it's released.
Just installed iOS 5 on my 1st gen wi-fi ipad and there are no gestures 😟
I hope this will be updated. Looking forward to using them on my iPhone 4S when I get it next week.
I had previously had my 1st Gen iPad multitasking gestures enabled via dev mode and now that I upgrade to iOS 5 I'm locked out?! It worked beautifully on 4.3!!!!!!
WHY IS APPLE LOCKING US OUT??? If I can't get this enabled via XCode or otherwise I am going to be livid. Clicking the Home button isn't the way to do this! C'mon Apple get it together!!!!!!!!! 😠
Just noticed this as well, no gestures on iPad 1. Very disappointing, that was one of the reasons I (and my home button) were looking foward to iOS5.
This just seems petty. The omission isn't going to make anyone buy a new iPad, it's just going to annoy early adopters. Why not modify iOS 5 to also add some occasional screen flickering on iPad 1, if we're trying to prod users to upgrade..
Preach on! Consider this early adopter annoyed.
Felt very let down when I finally realized that there where no gestures enabled. This was the most anticipated feature for my iPad.
I truly hope this is a mistake and Apple fixes it accordingly.
Other early adopter annoyed about this! Apple, please do something about it!
I have the same situation and sentiment (though, with a few less exclamation points).
Multi-touch gestures had been working fine through Xcode 4.0.2 for months on my gen 1 iPad. I loved them. There is no hardware reason for them not to work on an original iPad and I didn't know that iOS 5 would take them away before I updated - boo Apple!
And there is no excuse for Apple not to enable the gestures. If it somehow slows iPad1 down, we users could turn it off easily in Settings.
It is stupid for Apple to reward early adopters with this ... I got my iPad1 barely a year ago!!!
This is very disappointing on so many levels.
Seriously apple! What the **** are you playing at! The only reason I'm still awake here in the uk at 3.38 am was to get its 5 onto my iPad, to them play with the new gestures! Well done for omitting them! Why did I bother even upgrading! I don't care about newsstand, and iMessage, I wanted gestures! I agree with other people on here, it won't make me buy a new iPad! But it will confirm my suspicions that now a certain figure has gone, mediocrity will return to a company that was way beyond its competitors!
I'm not sold on that theory just yet, but this is definitely not a good start. I'm very surprised at the oversite in the features description though, I've come to expect much better attention to detail than that.
I have the 2nd one but I can understand the frustration. Just know that Apple doesn't read these forums so it would be best to send feedback

I hope it gets resolved for all of you
