Apple responded to this misunderstanding by massaging (er, correcting) the US web site.

Likely Apple is simply waiting for the user community to stop complaining, feel grateful that they received any update at all (thanks for reminding us Dah-veed) and the most passionate will upgrade to iPad 2.

This will not be forgotten however. The home-button double-click is so un-Apple that it will drive every user who has experienced multitasking gestures insane :/ and their partners who have to listen to a flurry of loud annoying CLICK-CLICKs in quiet environments.

Can you pass that on to the same people who you had correct the web site Dah-veed?

It is not the first nor the second time that Apple stops adding options that would work perfectly (that worked, in fact, as many users have seen in this case). It has happened several times before with little details on the iPhone (e.g.: new ringtones: iPhone 4G yes, 3G no; Notes syncing with Gmail: 4G yes, 3G no; activate Find my iphone: 4g yes, 3g: no... etc) little things that would be perfectly OK with the hardware.

And now this, again... a lot of people have seen that multitouch gestures worked perfectly fine on the iPad 1...

I do not like this treatment to the costumers. Apple could give me a better service adding gestures to iPad 1, the hardware could give a better service, but they do not want. Therefore, my next phone/tablet will NOT be Apple, for sure.

I'm so embarrassed to take my iPad1 to my local coffee shop. So embarrassing to be seen with last years model.

Promised myself not to buy 2 or 3 after this debacle just out of principal and I'll keep to that. Maybe iPad4 if apple stops treating us like fools.

£4.99 for a magazine in the newsstand, are you kidding me apple!!!!!

I can buy the real thing for less.

I've posted earlier with the same disgruntlement we all have with Apple concerning the lockout of the iPad 1 from Multitasking/Multi-Touch gestures in iOS 5.

Because I had been using the Xcode way to turn the gestures on I had forgotten that double-clicking the Home Button on the iPad gets me to all my open apps. That relieved some of the stress I had over the change. Duh!

Turning on "AssistiveTouch" in Settings->General->Accessibility has helped take the weight off of the Home Button, too. Give it a try.

Hi guys. I also have the first get iPad. I did not update the OS to the latest version, on purpose, since I want to know if the multi touch gestures are still there. Turns out they are not. Although it seems that there are other features I'll be missing. Especially the iCloud integration, the new email features, calendar etc. But until there is a way to put it back I'll be sticking to 4.3.5. I have some hope that Apple will someday give it back. If not, then well... that's too bad.

Switching to another platform... they don't have this at all. But some devs/marketing lurking here can maybe tell them to add it so we can switch :-). But then if I'll buy another tablet, why not iPad 3 ? :-)

Although Apple should have clarified from the beginning if they will or will not keep this feature in iOS 5 for iPad 1 owners.

I will send a feedback to increase the count. Maybe Apple will listen to us soon :-)
