itunes 10.5 does not install
Everytime I try and install iTunes 10.5 I get an windows installer package error and it back out. Is anybody else seeing this problem?

I am having the same problem. Apple Software Updater does not give me an option to Repair in Control Panel. If I delete it and try to install iTunes 10.5, I get the package error and it backs out. When I check back in Control Panel, Apple Software Update is there again, with a last use date of October 2010 and still no option to repair.
Any ideas what else to do with Apple Software Updater?
If not, if I go ahead and delete all Apple products and reinstall, I will NOT lose all my music, apps, etc. Correct?
It will not even let me uninstall the software updater...I get the package error thing and then when I try to repair I get a 'fatal error'. I am at a loss!
On Add/Remove programs there is a choice of Change or Delete. Push "Change" and then you will have the option to "Repair". That worked for me.
same error for me i couldnt install itunes 10.5 i uninstalled and reinstalled many times no use now my pc (vista ultimate 64 bit ) is without intunes coz couldnt install any version plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz somebody help me:(

If you go to where you would uninstally apple softwear update. what you do is right click it and go to repair and it should work
I'm having the same issue. I've done everything apple.com said to do. I've tried to "repair" it, i've uninstalled it and now it won't install at all. Keeps saying Windows Installer Package error message. I don't know what to do. help!
I have tried to repair in the add/remove program.
I have to find "iTunes.msi"... It seems to have been removed - I can't find it !
So, impossible for me to repair the last version.
I am disapointed about Apple - I really don't know how to install 10.5😕😕. Still have the same error !
OK, I have been through the uninstallers and finally got that application to be removed (I had to use third party uninstaller) and removed all apple applications.. rebooted and still no go. I get the windows application package error that everybody here is getting. I have opened a support call with apple at this point for tomorrow night. Lets see what they say now. I'll keep you all updated as to what they inform me.

Just got off the phone with Apple support. They said the problem is most likely on their end, servers are overwhelmed. They said for every 10 that are downloading successfully there are probably 4 that getting error messages.
Did Apple say what to do or when we should expect it to work?
Also, removed Itunes...then repaired Apple Software update...then restarted.
Hit download and Saved itunes installer to Desktop and ran set-up from there. Worked!
this did the trick!!! I just tried to uninstalled the apple Software update from Add Remove Programs; it wouldn't remove it, then I hit Repair. I repeated this twice. It Solved this issue. Didnt remove anything else. So easy after spending hours trying to figure it out. 😎
