The issue I was havnig with the installer was that the Apple software Update folder under Program files (x86) was not being updated. so when the package ran the files it needed were not there. I had to go to another machine and copy the files from that directory into my Apple software update directory and then ran the Itunes installer again. It work like a charm. i was able to install itunes no problem. You could not even use the repair or just the Apple Software Update installer. that would fail too. Try and installing iTunes on another machine or copy from a friends and you install should work.

Contrary to what was mentioned in an earlier post, you do NOT have to uninstall any or all Apple applications if 10.5 won't install in Win 7. Instead, do as one posting siuggested: Go into Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features and repain all Apples programs. Then install iTunes 10.5, reboot and then install iOS5 on your iPad (or whatever). Everything worked fine after that, but just be careful how you setup iCloud if you don't want to lose contacts and/or calendar items from Outlook and Gmail... or don't use iCloud at all. I lost contacts and calendar items from both Outlook and Gmail because I took the merge option. Luckily I had a copy of everything on another computer.

Make sure you are running things as the administrator, verify firewalls aren't causing problems.

If you can't connect to the store then uninstall ALL apple programs and reinstall only ITunes. Restart your computer and you should be good.

Apple engineers are working on the issue. In fact they called me earlier today to review the work arounds many of us on the boards have tried.

I cant install iOS 5 at all ! Why has it all got so complicated. The one thing that made the iphone so good was the simplicity of syncing by just plugging it in! My knowledge of computers is very limited but even I could always manage to update.

This new software seems to have been causing alsorts of problems. Is it possible to just take my iphone to the apple store and have it updated then bring it home and update my computer? I want to update but dont want to loose contacts/photos etc!

I was asked to detail the process I went through to get my install completed.

I had to install iTunes on another machine and then go to the c:\program files(x86)\apple Software Update\ and copy the entire contents of this directory over to my original machine under the same path. Once I did this I was able to run the iTunes installer without any problems and I was able to get IOS 5 installed without any issues.

The problem on my original machine was that the Apple Software Update directory did not have all of the files needed for the installer to run. Even if you tried to install the Apple Update Service it would error out. The only solution that worked for me was to copy that directory's content from another machine. The System still is working great and I have been able to update the phones and iPad with no problems. Even iCloud is working 🙂

I tried every solution posted in these forums and none of them worked. Now I'm not even able to reinstall the previous versions of iTunes, QuickTime Player and Apple Software Update. I also tried to recover my whole system, but the modifications on Win 7 registry made by the use of Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, Windows Fix it Tool among many others simply became the recovery impossible.

I'm not able to uninstall, repar/remove and install new versions of any Apple softwares. At least, could anyone tell me how to reinstall QuickTime and iTunes 10.4, please?

Has Apple already made any annoucement concerning the crap installer package for iTunes 10.5 they released? It seems to be possible to be executed successfully only on PCs that haven't had any Apple application installed before.

It's quite difficult to say which of both companies has the worse tech support: Microsoft or Apple.
