Okay Robert I did as you said, still no luck...still getting the same error message. Let me make sure I am doing this correctly. I installed iTunes 10.5 on a friends laptop, then went under program files in the (C:) drive, copied and pasted the 'Apple Software Update' and its' entirety onto a flashdrive, then on MY computer I copied and pasted the Apple Software Update from the flashdrive into program files, and then ran the installer. Am I doing something wrong?

thank you thank you thank you!!!! this worked for me as well. I have windows 7, 64 bit operating system. It states you have to load the "itunes 64-bit installer" before downloading 10.5 update. I could not install either until I did what you suggested, repairing the apple update installer in control panel.... took a second!!

Thanks again!

I don't get this why do some people try all theses work around's, and they don't work, and some try just one and it does? Obviously apple software engineers have a serious bug in this package i have another computer running win 7/64 bit home premium that wasn't running iTunes 10.4 because I rarely use it, so it updated with no problem so i just moved my music etc from my portable hd to the new itunes 1st point there is a bug for users with 10.4 iTunes on windows 7 /64 it doesn't update. U can rip the apple software out, clean the registry, and all the folders reinstall after rebooting and it will still do same thing ! THERE IS A FILE IN win 7/64 bit THAT IS CONFLICTING OR MISSING WITH ITUNES 10.5. if your gonna suggest a work around put what operating system U are using cause it may work for xp or vista but not 7 also U may have 32 bit not 64 all this matters in a work around

PS: APPLE FIX THIS ISSUE AND LET PEOPLE KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON!

Hey guys, let's take it easy.

I do believe everyone here is trying to help. Unfortunately, the suggested work araounds may not work for everybody in this forum due to the different versions of OS's running on each ones' computers.

However, I must say that the work around addressed here doesn't work if a few cautions are not taken. I tried to do exactly as described, installing iTunes 10.5 on a different computer. I did on VAIO running Win 7 32-bits Home with no iTunes installed. It worked in the first try on the VAIO, but when I transferred the updated installers to my another notebook (with Win 7 Pro 64-bits), I kept getting the same error messages regarding access permission to certain keys in the registry.

By trying to rip up all Apple softwares from my notebook before, I can't even Repare or Modify the Apple software entries in the Control Pannel.

Does someone have any suggestion? I'm getting tired of this iTunes 10.5.
