Part of the Norton 360 package is a parental control (aka family safety, filtering) program. Deactivating alone does not fix the problem; this module needs to be uninstalled. This is true for any and all filtering programs, including AVG Family Safety, Windows Live Family Safety, Bsecure (CloudCare), Net Nanny, etc. Unless the filtering program is uninstalled, itunes won't work, and you will probably experience issues with your web browser and overall PC performance.

Unfortunately, many antivirus programs have filtering modules as part of the package; it is these filtering modules that are causing the bulk of the issues with itunes and operating systems performance. MIcrosoft, Apple, and the filtering program software companies seem unwilling to acknowledge the conflict and find a resolution.

Thanks for the tips, pjdavismd. But still not working.

I have completly removed Norton 360 from my computer and disabled Windows Firewall. Then updated the "AppleSoftwareUpdate" folder content with files copied from another computer, tried to run iTunes installer and guess what? Same error! I also tried the option of repairing each Apple application on Control Panel, restarted my computer and the iTunes installer keeps stopping running due to "many errors".

The funny thing is that I didn't have to remove or disable any firewall applications, including Norton, to get the iTunes 10.5 installed on my father's notebook. The only thing different was the fact that his computer didn't have any Apple software previously installed on it.

I'm totally convinced now that this installation issue is caused entirelly by any bugged installer released by Apple and they don't even show any interest even with these huge discussions on Apple Support Community.

I also phoned to Apple's Support Center to ask for help and they don't even know how to operate a fu@! computer. That's simply unbelievable. They are only prepared to teach you how to turn your iPod on.

I believe I will have to reinstall Windows on my computer to get the crap iOS5 running on my iPhone. Once we have paid for these equipment and its utilities, we should sue Apple for this lack of attention with their customers.

Before you go thru the hassel of reinstalling Windows try this:

So I had a problem trying to install 10.5 on Win 7x64 as well as many have as I see. I was already on 10.5 and was trying to install an app that had an error and a solution was to uninstall itunes and everything from Apple in a certain order then reinstall. I followed the instructions which are in all the 10.5 cant install threads, then when I went to install I had the iTunes cant install message box, the one that has no error number just says "installer encountered error before itunes could configured".

I spent HOURS trying to figure out wth the problem was, I did all the different methods posted on these boards that I could find. I already had uninstalled all the Apple Products, I downloaded CCleaner to get rid of the Registry stuff, I deleted the Temp files, did it all to no avail. Then I stumbled upon the solution randomly reading on some other site.

Here it is, if you are having the problem after all the other methods try this:

Goto Start- Control Panel

Add or Remove User Accounts

Create another generic User Account

Download iTunes and Install it there

Switch back to your Regular User Account

Everything should be back on your Desktop

Click iTunes Shortcut

iTunes should load up perfectly including all your Music Playlists Apps ect

I havent deleted the Generic User Account yet but I have a feeling you can get rid of it once iTunes is downloaded. Im just glad I got it back up, I have an iPhone and well the thing can go useless if I cant hook it up to iTunes.

Hope this helps, Good Luck all and God Bless 8)
