Hmm, I finally fixed mine. Here is what I tried. Basically, i knew that the problem was recent and so I figured it had to be some recent change. 2 things I did recently----update iTunes and continue to download podcasts. I had tried the several other fixes suggested around here including redownloading (Repairing) iTunes etc etc etc.

What I finally decided to do was Unsubscribe all podcasts in case one of them was buggy and choking it somehow.

I Hilited all of the podcasts in iTunes and rightclikced and Unsubscribed.

I restarted----no problem. Not crashing. Now I'm going to Resubscribe slowly to see if I can find the culprit.

A bit of a pain, but beats the crap out of a TOTAL reinstall of 4k music files etc.

Try this it worked for me:

Go to "Control Panel", "Add or Remove Programs", highlight "Apple Software Update", click "Change", click "Repair". This will repair any lost or damaged files in the Apple Update area which is most likely where the problem lies. Once that is complete, download the newest version of iTunes again and proceed with uploading it.

I have exactly the same and totally sick to the teeth with Apple for not highlighting this problem. They could at least update the download instruction to include a problem solver. I have tried to download this 6 times even to the point of including link into my exceptions in AVG and Microsoft Security essentials. Still no joy.Totally disgusted with Apple.

I have spent the last three days dealing with this issue, running Vista 32bit OS. This is the fix.Ffollow the direction from Apple User: "Nevenkas 5" You have to "REPAIR" it and then it will install ITunes 10.5. I also had the same problem with my XP machine, repaired the Apple Software Update and it installed ITunes with no problems. it tried everything that was suggested and nothing worked...This fix did THANKS!

I did this.

Uninstal Itunes in this order.(http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925)

iTunes

  1. QuickTime
  2. Apple Software Update
  3. Apple Mobile Device Support
  4. Bonjour
  5. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Create another user ID with admin privileges. Log out and log back in with the new user ID.

Install Itunes 10.5.

Then log in as the original user. All you settings willbe intact and you can update to IOS5.

Let's see...

Yes, I have used the Windows Uninstaller Fix Tool BS.

Yes, I have uninstalled any and every reference to an Apple program.

Yes, I have tried to manually change permissions of the keys it says I need.

Yes, I have created a new user account and made it an admin.

Oh? Right click and 'Repair' the updater? Great idea...oh wait...I deleted it because that was a recommendation.

Still being told that I don't have permission to access three keys. The best part! They change every time I grant permissions to the one listed. I even tried granting read/write to all of them. This is crap.

Windows PC here....

Just wanted to say what worked for me....

Go into Programs & Feartures

I selected Change and then Repair on the following Apple Programs...

Apple Application Support

Apple Mobile Device Support

Apple Software Update

itunes

I suspect it was just the update on itunes that did the trick, but it can't hurt to do all of them.....I did that and now it is working fine...hope that helps...very frustrating to figure out though...thanks to those who posted here before...
